Ok, My 08 firebolt bars are just great for an hour or so...but they suck for much longer. I'll admit I bought the wrong bike for long hauls. Believe me,
I love the bike and I'm in this forever. My last bike was with me for 25 years, so.... everybody go look at your top triple clamp. Do ya think if I drilled a couple of holes in the top triple clamp and fitted standard bar mounts it would work? I know I'll have to change the clutch cable and brake line but what do ya think? Of course I know it will effect handling bla bla bla, it would just be for the long trips, around 2000 KM a weekend. Any thoughts? Thanks, Wayne

That was the first thing I noticed about my 08 xb12r. It became very uncomfortable on the initial ride home 2 hrs later. I was looking at a way to do the exact same thing you are talking about. Of coarse this is my first sport bike and just assumed it would grow on me, but I dont know. The guys from work are planning a long ride this weekend (about 6-8 a day for 3 days) and I am thinking long and hard about not going for this reason. If oyu come up with something let me know how it goes and what your feedback is. I will do the same.

I would look for a top triple clamp from a lightning. I would check with BPG, but I believe the forks would be the same size as say an 08 xbs12 so you should be able to swap the entire top clamp. Don't know about cable lengths though...

Save yourself the fab work and just buy a Lightning upper triple tree. You will have to change all the clutch cable, throttle cables, and the brake line. I will get some example part numbers for you tomorrow at work.

Or this could be another option....

Superbike Bar Conversion

Thanks BPG, I thought the triple clamps were different so I tossed that idea right away. Any help woud be great!! Oh ya, I was hoping to do it without spending a mortgage payment
:D Wayne

I found something called "ROX risers" that is supposed to work on Buells. Has anybody seen these or tried them? Sorry I don't know how to post a link, just search "ROX risers".

Upper Triple Clamp - J1105.1ADA - $130.00

Handlebar Clamp - N0348.1ADYBQ - $21.00

Handlebar - N0002.1AD - $59.75

Handlebar Clamp Screws - AA0508.2CXZB - $13.75

Clutch Cable - 38613-03C - $39.95

Throttle Cable - N0307.5AC - $16.70

Throttle Cable - N0308.1AC - $16.70

Brake Line - H1531.1ADA - $39.25

Around $340.00 all together

The only problem with this swap is you will have to get creative on a way to mount your ignition switch, due to the fact that the new upper clamp won't have the boss to mount it in.

maybe i'm too new to the xb, i've looked as solutions for bars/risers as well but the xb9[03]fork mounted fairing is a potential steering restriction. it seems there would need to be mods [cutting] done to accommodate new bars.

how far off am i? lol

BPG, or anyone who's tried this, if you mount the Lightning stuff, are there clearance issues with the fairing? Thanks, Wayne

Hey fast, thanks for the link, that's awesome! That's exactly what I'm looking for. And the blue!!
I'm thinking if I drill through the top triple clamp just rear or the anniversary badge it should work fine. Wayne

HELI BARS!!!!!
Got them on my firebolt - love 'em
They look trick, and move the clip-ons up and back at least an inch.
Doesn't sound like much, but it feels like much more.
At least check them out.

jdilpkle, I know this is an old thread, but which Heli Bars are you reffering to? I am VERY interested in the same deal here and am presently looking into the high bars for the CR by ASB....(I think it was ASB)

Heli bars are no longer made for Buell XB's. I was going to have a set knocked off but just bought a Vista Cruise Throttle lock instead.

Buellpartsguy,
Can you post the length of the cables you mentioned and are they for a lightning or Ulysses?

Here is the thread for the discussion.
Thanks
Brett

I know that this thread is somewhat old but i'll add my 2 cents. As airbrushgary mentioned above ASB offers the riser bars for the 1125R that fits our firebolts with minor modification. I believe 1 inch rise and about half inch back. I recently purchased these bars and lighting clutch cable for my firebolt XB12. I believe this is all thats available for the firebolts other than the tripple tree conversions. Another nice thing about these bars is that you can keep the clip on look and feel (if you like that sort of thing)hope this helps.
Fourty...

I've told plenty of people with other bikes that they should just drill their top triple and put risers on it, but I heard that the Buell clamps were specifically made to break first in a crash so frame damage is less likely. That whole situation would leave me a little squeemish when it came to actually drilling holes in the top clamp.

FOURTYGRIT, aside the clutch cable, was there anyother mod's needed for fitment or other issues?

The more I ponder the handlebar issue, the more I am leaning towards these bars. Does the new position relieve the arms enough to warrant the $225 price tag?

Airbrush,
1" rise is a considerable difference and well worth the money, IMO. I just received the bars and clutch cable on friday so I'll be changing them soon with updates. The bars come with instructions for fitting them to the 1125 so needless to say I will not be following them. I know that about 1" of the new 1125 bars needs to be cutoff and new grips are necessary. Other than that, the lightning clutch cable is all you should need. I'll start a new thread with pics of the install, hopefully this will help those considering it.:) Fourty...
