Firebolt headlight recall

For anyone that has not had this done. The upgrade/recall 0501 is scheduled to lapse Dec 2010.

I'm calling the dealer today to see if I can just get the new headlamps in hand. My closest dealer is just over an hour away, which puts dropping the bike off a little on the difficult/waste of gas side of things.

i had mine done, well worth it.the new lense is much brighter. they would not give me the parts and let me do it myself. i took off everything to make it faster for them and it still took 3 hours to do a 5 min. job,i re assembeled the bike if front of the shop door ,while they watched...they still left the wire loose.

I had my bike apart to add HID's when I saw how bad the factory housings had deteriorated. Convinced the dealership to complete the recall and took it to them with the fairing off and lights out. All they had to do was put it back together but I asked if they could just replace the stock bulbs with the HID kit. Not sure it should have cost the additional $50 just to pop in the bulbs, but I guess I didn't have to put it back together.

I stopped by my dealer after school to ask about it a few months back...they pulled it off the shelf threw it on, washed my bike and sent me on my way. 45min from pull in to pull out. For those who haven't gotten it done yet, don't be too intimidated by the horror stories. Its worth asking about.

Um..I believe the recall letter is for pre-07 models - so I think it was pre Sept 06 production?

Did I get that date right?

I called to check on getting my 04 taken care of and they said sorry its over and they cant even order the parts anymore. I told them the date was extended to Dec. 10, 2010 & I have a letter to prove it so they asked me to Fax it to them so they could authenticate the letter (WTF). So I did and got a call saying that they didnt see it in the letter anywhere (WTF Again). I had to tell them what paragraph and what line in that paragraph it was before they could found it. Next thing you know they are apologizing and telling me they are ordering the parts right now and to bring it in when I get home in 3 weeks. It really piss's me off that they think that some people are that stupid.

Wow - that much trouble over some headlamps? I've got to call my dealer on Monday and see when my replacements will be here. Hope Buell still has them in stock.

I know this Topic is old but how can i tell if my headlights have had the recall replacement done? I noticed before i put it up for winter that my headlights were horrible. Also is there any DIY fix?

The reflective coating on the inside of the light housings were peeling and stripping off on the originals. I've heard of a few guys on here using chrome like paint on the pieces to bring back the reflective functionality.
You also might take a look at the HID walkthrough some guys put up. It made a big difference with my lights.

I know this Topic is old but how can i tell if my headlights have had the recall replacement done? I noticed before i put it up for winter that my headlights were horrible. Also is there any DIY fix?

Not a recall, a customer satisfaction campaign. Was valid until last December. Had mine done, made a MAJOR difference, low beems were brighter then my old high beems.

By recall lights do you mean the old lights that were recalled, or the newer replacement ones? Which have the circles?

The new ones. IF you have doubts if yours has been done, call the Harley shop with your VIN #.

I called yesterday about mine but since it lapsed in 2010 I'm SOL. Guess I'll go a DIY route, but my lights are terrible currently.
