Okay guys time for my own thread. My name is Nate and I live in NM. With a new motor on the way for my bike and it hopefully coming together within the next month I figured I would start up a little build thread to update as I come to completion.
Just to say, I'm 21 now and have drooled over these bikes since I was a child. The obsession started with tubers, and when the XB bikes came out I knew I would own one. It just so happens I sold my Ninja EX500 last fall and picked up a "project" Buell shortly after. I did now know how serious this project would become due to a shady seller. No regrets from me however.
I picked up the bike from a craigslist add, the seller claimed the bike as perfect running, etc, and was advertising for $3,000. After getting in touch of the seller he told me that the bike was currently not running and would not start, and had a salvage title, but would take $1,000 for it. I jumped on the deal and picked it up. I changed out the fuel, put in new plugs, etc and got it fired up for the first time. To my dread at this point in time it had an obnoxious rod knock. Very obvious loud rod knock. I was horrified, but being mechanically inclined, and having a father who is an ex HD mechanic I knew I would restore her to her past glory.
I started looking into engine rebuilds, replacement motors, etc and quickly decided on just swapping in a new motor for a quicker turnaround. After browsing ebay I came across a motor with 3k miles on it and made the guy an offer, $1,400, of which he accepted. That motor was shipped out to me on last Wed. and should be making it here shortly.
Ive already swapped from ends with my brother, so it will be an XBr front with XBs rear when it comes back together.
Enough chit chat, here are the photos.
When I first picked her up.
Beginning initial teardown.
Engine/swinger out.
Pile of plastics/tail chop await install.
So here I am with the bike at its most torn apart stage, Other than the most recent struggle I'm having with my forks being asymmetrical which you can see HERE it should come together quickly.
Please visit my other thread and give me your .02c on my forks.
It is hopefully all downhill from here, these bikes are super easy to tear down and work on. I'm proud to be a Buell owner.
