Okay guys time for my own thread. My name is Nate and I live in NM. With a new motor on the way for my bike and it hopefully coming together within the next month I figured I would start up a little build thread to update as I come to completion.

Just to say, I'm 21 now and have drooled over these bikes since I was a child. The obsession started with tubers, and when the XB bikes came out I knew I would own one. It just so happens I sold my Ninja EX500 last fall and picked up a "project" Buell shortly after. I did now know how serious this project would become due to a shady seller. No regrets from me however.

I picked up the bike from a craigslist add, the seller claimed the bike as perfect running, etc, and was advertising for $3,000. After getting in touch of the seller he told me that the bike was currently not running and would not start, and had a salvage title, but would take $1,000 for it. I jumped on the deal and picked it up. I changed out the fuel, put in new plugs, etc and got it fired up for the first time. To my dread at this point in time it had an obnoxious rod knock. Very obvious loud rod knock. I was horrified, but being mechanically inclined, and having a father who is an ex HD mechanic I knew I would restore her to her past glory.

I started looking into engine rebuilds, replacement motors, etc and quickly decided on just swapping in a new motor for a quicker turnaround. After browsing ebay I came across a motor with 3k miles on it and made the guy an offer, $1,400, of which he accepted. That motor was shipped out to me on last Wed. and should be making it here shortly.

Ive already swapped from ends with my brother, so it will be an XBr front with XBs rear when it comes back together.

Enough chit chat, here are the photos.

When I first picked her up.

So here I am with the bike at its most torn apart stage, Other than the most recent struggle I'm having with my forks being asymmetrical which you can see HERE it should come together quickly.

Please visit my other thread and give me your .02c on my forks.

It is hopefully all downhill from here, these bikes are super easy to tear down and work on. I'm proud to be a Buell owner.

Wow man you really jumped into the XB scene with both feet huh!

Best of luck to you with the forks and motor swap.

On the upside, it looks like you have some new tires there, so it's not a total clusterfark.

Can't wait to see what she looks like when you're done.
Thanks for sharing with us -keep it up please.

Thanks man, yeah the brand new tires, belt, front rotor, and the race can it came with were the saviors of this deal.

Looks like a great build is begining and with some time another Buell Beauty on the Rise.Watch those Ground wires and keep us all posted. [up]

$1000 sounds like a great deal for a bike that looks that good! good luck getting her going

Yeah, $1K is a SMOKING deal for that. You can get most of your money back if you sell the race exhaust.

Thank you guys for the kind words. I do promise the bike will be very badass when done, I have high hopes for it.

Otherwise heres a pic of the current trusty steed. Its a rat style evo sportster. It doesnt handle worth dick, but at least I still have something to ride.

New motor is IN!!!

Played with it today, cleaned up the new motor a little, put in new plugs, wrapped the header, flushed out the swingarm just in case there were metal shavings, and got the swingarm attatched to the new motor. Progress is going well.

Man makes me wanna strip mine completely down and do what I want to it! I gotta learn to not look at people's build threads!!!!!

Yeah, there are quite a few things I'd like to do to it while its apart like this, however I want to ride it more than that. So no wasting time with paint, etc right now. Today once I get off of work I should get the motor/swinger in place and wired up.

I am very excited.

New engine is in and running. Sounds fucking great. I cannot wait to ride it, unfortunately I'm waiting on wheel bearings in the mail right now. But soon..

Will updated with pics tomorrow.

Update for those who care.

She runs amazing, cannot wait for the rest of the parts to come in so I can ride.

This week I've been working on the bike a lot. Mostly small things. First I finished assembling everything and installed my UNI filter. Then I buffed out scratches on my scoop and painted it, wired the interactive valve on my oem exhaust open so I didnt have to run a cable(and I like the way it sounds), painted the exhaust black since I currently dont have a subfairing up there.

With the ECU I decided to first swap the ecu that came with my bike(not knowing what map it had on it) with the one that came with my 3,000 mile motor. It started up right away and ran way better than with the bikes original ecu. I then plugged it into ecm spy, disabled the interactive valve and removed it from the bike. I also reset all my CEL codes and ran the bike, NO more CEL present. I also went ahead and grabbed the map off of the ecu for future reference, and for when I get an exhaust and start tuning.

So the wheel bearings I ordered came in and I will install those some time this weekend. I have a slight issue with the front wheel because the bearing race stuck in the hub and the rest of the bearing came out when I pulled off the wheel. The bearings were THAT shot.

I also bought some freshly rebuilt forks from a forum member here, they have been shipped out and are due to arrive by tuesday. So I'm NOT skimping on that!

I may however take the bike for a very tame run to get it registered this weekend, so that way come tuesday when my forks arrive I can really ride her.

I may just be talking to my self in this thread, but its working out as a personal diary of the bike, ROFL.

What he^^ said. Bikes lookin good. Nice job man. Hopefully ill be able to find someone who has an SCG that wants to swap tails and suspension.

New wheel bearings installed beautifully. I then installed the drive belt, flushed and gave it new trans fluid. I gave her one last look over and then took her out on her maiden voyage.

How she came out overall. Sexy if i do say so myself.

Just before gearing up and taking off.

Went to get gas, and came right back. Was not expecting to get to ride it today, thus the shorts. I'm no squid. No tags, will wait till my new forks come in to really beat on it.
