And just to be clear i have no problem supporting companies for their hard work, but i love my bike and on a truck drivers pay supporting a family i always try DIY projects as i like to tinker with stuff.

did a google search for the UV LED's and the tape, seems to be those are readily available items...cutting the tape will be the challenge to have a consistent width, hiding wires shouldn't be that difficult with all the products out there for wire protection, maybe install on front fork opposite of brake line and attach in the same manner, maybe upgrade to CNC clamps for brake lines from ASB...on the rear run the wires along the brake line, use maybe the spiral wrap in black to blend in, just my thoughts without seeing pics of how it was originally installed, but you guys are very creative and sure a solution that works well will come from it

I apologize for the delay, but I will get some pictures and videos posted of the setup, where things are mounted and wires are run as soon as I can.

Just sent Lunasee an email for some more info. Like some of ya'll are saying, fabbing up your own "tron wheels" shouldn't be overly hard. Looking into a custom mod myself.

SilveradoTX how are your wheels working out now that you've had them on for a bit? Also curious, what does the tape look like in the daylight?

wow what a brilliant way to be way more visible unobtrusivly and looks pretty cool in the process. this is a mush mod for me as soon as it warms up. looking forward to seeing install pics

Silverado, I'd like to check these things out in person, I know the weathers been shitty lately but is there somewhere around town I could catch you?

I made a diy ASL for my rear wheel, i didnt do the front wheel because the wires were alot more harder to hide. Mine turned out very well for slapping it together. I used a remote relay to turn them on and off instead of a toggle switch. Only problem im having is the glow tape doesnt seem to stick all that well. Im going to peel it off and use some 3m 94 primer and then put the tape back on. I didnt get a chance to get any good pics or photos yet because its been snowing.

So, I'm attempt to make my own "Lunasee" setup. I've made the led's and acquired glow in the dark tape. All told, maybe $20. The biggest challenge I'm having is the damn tape. It's not very flexible. I'm sure it will look good going down the road but at stand still, the line is all jacked up. Any one have any type for this sort of material? I've tried using a heat gun with no luck.

very interested where you aquired the $20 worth of parts. seems like an awesome alternative. $200+ is a bit steep for some lights and tape.

anrkizm95: that tool is genious! always wondered how rim tape got applied so straight.

Hey everyone!

Sorry to revive an older thread. I came across this page through a google search trying to figure out the Tron style lights for wheels. The homemade route seems to be pretty straight forward and definitely possible, only thing I was curious to see if anyone had any experience with was the LED UV pods. All the ones I came across emit a purple UV (blacklight style) and I was wondering just how bright it is, if it is very visible on the rims of the wheels. I suppose another question would be must the entire rim be exposed to the UV light? Or will it be enough to charge if only certain sections of the rim are exposed to the light?
I don't have any experience with the tape, or anything which glows in a similar manner so I haven't much of a clue the science behind the material. Thanks!

maielstrom, my apologies for the delay. The light from the UV LED is pretty bright, and it does show up on the rims as well as puts some light on the ground but both are not a lot. The purple glow of thr LEDs with the green on the rim is pretty cool in my opinion. I know it's not for everyone.
The entire rim does not have to be exposed, only the lip of the rim which is where the light is concentrated. one could try doing sections of tape around the lip of the rim for a slightly different effect while rolling.

Also, as an update for anyone who may be interested, the DIY kit is now available on the Lunasee website.

I have photos of how the system is mounted and where the wires are run, but I just need to get them on my laptop and have Internet acces. I can give a description in the mean time if anyone is interested.
