What's up,

Stoked to be here. Purchased my first Buell this past weekend. 2009 black xb12scg....with only 200 miles on it! Insane. I was beyond excited for this find The bike is 100% stock and in mint condition like I just bought it off the showroom floor. Anyway, I have a lot of respect for these bikes with regards to their unique innovation and one-off look.

I purchased this as my 2nd bike. I have a 2009 R6 that I've poured my entire soul and bank account into :) I track my R6, but it's still can be street legal if I want it to be. I'm slightly over the constant racebike feel on the street, hence the reason I pulled the triigger on this XB for my 2nd bike. It's the perfect 2nd option to a racebike in my opinion. More comfortable riding position, but an awesome motor and it's super agile.

I know sportbikes and Yamahas like the back of my hand, but I'm going to stay very openminded on this Buell forum, because I don't know much about these bikes or this motor. I had the 1st service completed today at my local HD dealership. Would rather do the service myself, but decided I'd let them do the first service to give it an initial once over since it's been idle for a couple years. Did the 1k service even though she only has 260 miles on her right now.

So far, so awesome. I don't plan to tear this XB completely apart like my R6, but tires, mirrors, exhaust, ecm, air filter, and new LEDs all around are in my immediate future. Any other immediate mods I should consider?

Currently trying to decide on the Dummer vs Jardine and what tires to run on this bike. This low end power might rip up my soft sticky tires I'm used to running on my R6. So much cool info to read through here, can't wait. Trying to load a picture, but the pop-up box keeps timing out.

Cheers [up] :D

I run Michelin take-offs on my XB12Ss. Duel compound (med/med soft) tires hold up great, ~4500+ miles on the rear. Duel compound med soft/soft tires even did alright, 3000 miles on the rear. Single compound soft get destroyed in a hurry though, ~800 miles.

Its all about pref but I run the Pirelli Diablos they are not very expensive and even with hard riding they dont slip until you hit the rim. Just my opinion, don't get the corsas they are amazing but with my hard riding I only got 1k out of a set. I'm thinking about getting the new pirelli angels for the 6k+ mileage but dont want to give up the grip. Diablos get 3k to 3500 miles depending. And I have never had problems in the rain, I've ridden through monsoons. .

2nd on the Pirelli's... Got 4500 miles out a back tire... Another tire I've had good luck with is the Michelin...

Congrats on your find... Enjoy that thing... You will not be disappointed...

Thanks for the tire comments. Yea I usually run Michelin power ones on the street and track. Also tried the Michelin Power Supersport this year and love it. Will have to decide if I'm going to put these on the XB or not. Some take sticky take offs might be a good idea as well. Thanks[up]

Any other immediate mods you guys can think of for the XB? I'll obviously do the standard stuff I mentioned above, but just curious if there's anything else unique to this bike.

By the way, how do I add a photo on this forum? Lil different than my R6 forum. When I click "add your photo" a blank box comes up [mad]

Welcome!

I know you said air filter earlier but You should look into an open airbox modification and a breather re-route. The air boxes on these bikes arnt pressurized and the easier airflow of the open air box mod will help engine performance to some degree if you plan on doing multiple performance upgrades [up]

Idk if you've found it yet but the DIY forum is a great place to look for ideas

Ride safe and enjoy the Buell [cool]

Yes do the volt meter mod, I am about to do it to my bike since my stator went out 2 years ago and now my vr went out. Just want to keep a better eye on things. You can find a really good thread here somewhere just google buell volt mod and look for the one on this forum it has pics and all its like 4$ and looks completely stock

Here is my recommendations of things to do:
New muffler
Ceramic coat the headers and muffler
K&N air filter
Swiss cheese airbox
Tune
Mirrors
Breather re-route
Right side air scoop
Pirelli Diablo tires
Clean up the cheese grater rear end
Remove reflectors and stickers
Remove belt guard and mud flap
Gear down to XB9 gears if you want more acceleration

Enjoy the bike. That is my favorite bike along with the 12R. Good find!

Get the drummer pipe. You won't be sorry - I run a Drummer on my Uly and my Firebolt. Plus, Kevin is only about 30 minutes up the road from me. Heck of a nice guy!

I'm running Michelin PP3's on my Firebolt right now. I'm very happy with how they feel, and the general consensus is that they last longer than many other tires. I run Scorpion Trails on the Uly, but it occasionally finds itself on a dirt trail...

Sweet. All awesome feedback, thank you[up][up] Yes, lots of good DIY mods for this bike that I've found here :D

how do I add a photo on this forum?

First add them to your profile using the "my pictures" tab or whatever it's called. The. In your post when you select "add your photo" it should take you to your previously uploaded photos. And I do believe when posting you can just use the "image" option to link to the URL of an image.

As far as xb exhausts go, I can't say much. I had a modified stocker and a tune to it and my 9r was a hoss. I would power wheelie shifting to 4th sometimes and it sounded fantastic. I can post a link to a YouTube vid if you're interested. I'm sure a drummer, one of Dean Adams's fantastic creations or one of randy Hawkins modded stockers would be exactly what your lookin for. An exhaust and a good tune is your best bet for $$ per $$ performance.

Imho, don't do the 9 primary. I have an 09 XB12Scg as well, (mines blue, wanna trade?...) I put the 9 gears in it, and was not happy. If every road had a 45 mph speed limit it would be great, because I'd be running 70. But I'm in MT, running 80-85 everywhere, just felt I was revving it to much. Oil consumption went up too. I put the stock primary back in it, I like it much more. I came off a GSX-R 750, trust me, if you're familiar with the R6 you don't want to give up more top end.
Iv'e got Spec Ops exhaust, not sure if he still does pipes but I like mine. Running the Diablo tires too, love em, and they're cheap. I have the Drummer tune EBR race ECM, with the Dobeck Performance Gen 4 AFR plus efi controller. If you're interested in the Dobeck solution, let me know I might be able to get you a deal. They have a good base tune for the XB12, they used my bike as a guinea pig. They did say it worked much better with the race ecm than the stock. They mounted the AFR gauge under the translucent air box, It looks sweet. Lawdog has the mod list right on, that is pretty much what I did, with a few extras. Good Luck!

I forgot to mention you will dream of a 6th gear everyday but unfortunately not possible. :( Biggest limitation in my opinion.
