I have a new 08 1125R and the sevice light just came on. What do they actually do for the first service? Is it just an expensive oil change or what?

the 1st oil change involves all fluids swapped, air/oil filter, tire psi check, cables lubed, clutch check, plugs, service pack (gaskets), all as a package.

According to the service manual @ 620 miles (1,000 kilometers):

Engine oil: REPLACE

Engine oil filter cartridge: REPLACE

Tires: CHECK CONDITION, CHECK PRESSURE AND TREAD

Clutch fluid: CHECK LEVEL

Rear belt and sprocket: INSPECT

Throttle, brake, clutch controls, sidestand: INSPECT, SERVICE AS NEEDED

Brake fluid: CHECK LEVELS AND CONDITION

Electrical switches and equipment: CHECK OPERATION

Exhaust system: INSPECT FOR LEAKS, CRACKS, AND LOOSE OR MISSING FASTENERS OR HEAT SHIELDS

Cooling system: INSPECT LEVEL, CHECK CLAMPS FOR TIGHTNESS

Radiators and oil cooler fins: CLEAN

Brake system and oil lines: INSPECT FOR LEAKS

Road test: VERIFY COMPONENT AND SYSTEM FUNCTIONS

Plugs are not replaced until 12,400 miles. Never heard of replacing the gaskets. Brake and clutch are hydraulic so there are no cables, correct?

It's a over priced oil change at the stealership! Do it ur self triple, I even resused the drain plug washers. The hardest part is the right side drain take forever and requires two people unless u have stands. PM me if u have problems and I will walk u through it. Good luck

Idk about u guys but my clutches on (2 different buells) need adjustment ALL THE TIME!!! (also primary chain) kind of a pain but thats the only maint. Ive had to do... my xb has 25k on it oh yea i have put a couple sets of plugs in and fluid changes

He has a 1125, no clutch adjustment needed. Plugs don't need changed unless u have a problem or you want to over maintance one. I had a XB also and yes the clutch and plugs needed attention all the time. 1125 is a totally different breed.

Thanks so much guys! This forum and you guys are awesome! I think I will use synthetic for my bike. I'll let you know if I get in over my head.
