So I'm about to buy my first Buell, 05 XB12R

The bike about most likely about to buy...

Just looking for your guys opinions of the bike. Things you love about it, things you dislike. items to look out for. I'm about to go see it for the first time this weekend. Besides looking over the bike obviously for things that might be wrong. Anything I should look and pay close attention to? The guy I'm looking to buy it from said there is a brand new clutch on it, and the front fork was just replaced with a new on. Dropped once with some small scratches.

Also, I know all bikes handle different, so anything I should avoid doing that the bike doesnt like etc. Basically I am in need of a crash course for this bike.

bike looks like it has a race exhaust, so it may have the race ecm also. Does he have any of the maintnence records.....I would try and talk him down a lil bit $3400 for 18,000 seems a lil high to me.

I know these are not close to ya, but it gives ya an idea on whats out there and it gives ya somthing to compare to.

these are just a few that I pulled up in a quick search.

I don't know why it didn't post it for me, but if I take it we agreed on 3,100 crash. Sound good?

Take a real good look at it then pull out the cash......offer him $3000. Cold hard cash speaks volumes when its right in front of them.

cash lol sorry about that.and yeah I offered 3 and he went 3100$ so I figure that was good, I know it has 18k, but brand new clutch, new fork. Guy owns a few other bikes so he seems legit. From what he said there is nothing mechanically wrong with the bike besides the little scratches from the drop.

Also one other question, or rather statment. This is my first bike that I am ever buying, huge noob. I have rode dirt bikes before. Don't know if this makes a different but I am a pilot for a living and have the utmost respect for my aircraft and how I handle it. I feel will have the same if not more respect for this bike seeing as how it could killing quicker than my jet could.

I plan to use this bike for just riding around town, so trips here to there, never ever ever and highway riding or trying to ride MOTO GP style, just trying to sit back relax and look good doing it with a good looking bike.

3100 sounds decent, less milage would be better even if it cost a little more though.buells are great starter bikes very easy to ride.

Judging from your post count you seeem to be very into the bikes and riding, I'll take your word for it.

i started on dirt also and imo it makes for an overall better rider.enjoy what ever you get and assume everyone in a car is out to get you.

either the rider is a heavy rider or he liked to pile into and out of corners to pile the fork seals means alot of heavy braking into corners and a new clutch sounds like slapping the clutch out of the corner.hard in and out of corners seems to wear out fork seals and clutch plates. i am no slouch as far as riding my bike hard and to top it off i weigh in at 350 lbs my 07- 12r has 15,000 miles and no sign of slipage in the clutch and front end is solid and sure on the road. sending the syn. oil into the lab every oil change and have found very little clutch material in the oil filter.as far as the overall of buying a xb12r it is a absolute fun bike to ride it won't pull your arms out of thier sockets it would be considered a finesse bike more the a aggressive handling bike.the only thing i use up regular is tires i always go for the sport compound pirellis they hold my big ass on the road very well.

I just saw it and took it for a spin today, I'm taking it. The reason for the fork replacement is the guy was in a minor crash and one sided need to be replaced so they decided to go ahead and do both. I fit really well on the bike. just about have my feet flat on the ground. Thing sounds like a beast. The shop i went to that is finishing up the work looked top notch and very legit. Very comforting and confident when answering my questions with everything. All the fluids have been replaced and are new, tires are good for about 5k. The left mirror has a little rash on the front from the fall but besides that the outside appearance of the bike is great.

hey w3 what shop was it at? im in oceanport dont see to many buells around here. congrats on the bike you will enjoy [up]

Called the Black Widow, just outside Redbank Nj, up north. Really nice shop. Sucks I live so far away otherwise I would give them my business with the bike.
