I went out to the garage to hop on the bike to go to work yesterday, and noticed something looked off bout my bike. I touched the rear tire and it was flat. Appears i hit a nail at some point. I just cant seem to catch a break.

Has anyone plugged a sport bike tire? I know its not a good thing to do but, i really cant afford a new tire for a couple weeks.

Do I have to change the bearings? If i have to change them which kinds should i be watching out for. Do i use HD brand or is there an aftermarket set that is reasonable?

If you going to be cheap about it, patching is better way to fix it than plug.

Unfortunately i do not have a way to remove the rear tire yet. I pitbull stand i have for the rear wont work with the axle sliders considering i am gonna have to remove the tire. And i dont have a motorcycle jack. My exhaust has been modified too, so i have to remove the exhaust to jack it up.

I am going to order the new tire in a couple weeks, its just not in the budget right now. Until then i am either riding on a rigged tire or riding my Wife's Buell Blast.

You will have to take the tire off the rim, then rough the inside area where the nail was, use special glue and tire patch.

You mean wheel bearings? No you don't need to change those if you are just putting a new tire on, however to make sure you don't crush or damage your bearings, make sure you do the Torque tightening method when re-installing the rear wheel...

Well, i just used some tire slime. Hopefully it gets me by a couple weeks. I unfortunately am going to have to baby the bike till then.

Be careful with any sort of patch or slime for a motorcycle tire. You only have two and if one fails catastrophically, you're in trouble. Just something to watch out for.

That you for the concern. Thankfully its the rear tire. The tire managed to get me home 25 miles with a hole in it and 8psi before the slime. So hopefully after, it will be ok. I'm taking a pressure gauge with me and am going to be checking it often till it gets replaced.

I picked up a small nail last summer, no idea how i wold have got it because it was so small. But it went completly flat, used slime and it was fine until this summer when that same tire decided to get into a fight with an old unseen rusted exhaust strap on the road. It didnt even loose any pressure over the winter when it set. I just didnt do anything too crazy with knowing the rear tire had that.

I had to plug a tire last yr to get it swapped, was in the same boat, no way to lift it.
Stands come in very handy for so many reasons.
They really are a great investment.

Anyways just rode it to get it changed, no more.
But I do know ppl that have gone a while with a plug.
They were lucky.

I think this tire has been on the bike for a while. I bought the bike a month ago, front tire is obviously new. The rear, the more I look at it, has a little bit of dry rot going on. Will replace soon.

I have plugged 2 rear tires with no problems, in fact, i have a plug kit under my seat, and a CO2 compact inflator, the little pressurized cylinders for Pellet guns, it takes 6-8 of them to get to a safe riding pressure, @25 psi in the rear tire, but better than destroying a decent tire or wheel, or being stranded, JMHO,

The end of last summer i picked up a roofing nail in my back tire ,my tire need to be replaced to but would have lasted till spring. We were low on founds so I plugged it with the kind for a car looks like rope with rubber on it . Rode it for three months replaced it this spring that tire held air till they took it off.My father in law had three plugs in his full dresser HOG

if they cant build a tire that is trashed by one hole in it they need to get in another line of work.
