PICS!!!

and

you'll probably need an impact wrench, with a locking bar for the primary gears. and it sounds like you could use a service manual too. check out buellmods.com

Yes it's a lefthanded nut and why it was welded is a mystery.?? Really Check out that Area due to Some have put XB9 parts on the XB12 year Crank it comes loose over time. That May OR Not be but worth checking out while you are inside the area.
Anyway you [need] a Primary and Clutch Bar or you can buy one from Jims OR try American Sportbike.com to get the bar to slip inbetween the Two Gears inside the primary this will hold them so no Damage will occur to the Drive assembly.
Leave the Primary Chain inplace too till the Nut is loose then remove as a
Whole.
If you try to shortcut it with out the proper Tools needed it will cost a lot of money to replace the pieces. GET the tools first then post up and there is plenty of help Here on the Forum. MAKE sure to read up on the Repair. When you break loose the nut on the Front Rotor that incases the Stator, then it will come out as a set .
There is no other way to do that without risking Severe Damage to the Gears inside the Transmission. So if you have Removed the Clutch Basket put in all the way back together, Also make sure to replace the inner Thrust Washer in the back behind the Clutch Basket, and check the Needle bearings too. There are manuals at the top of the page for downloading. The Transmission is very simular on all years of Buells. The Primary cover has changed over the years of Model Bikes but the inner workings are closely related. Some parts are different but Assemble the same way. Do NOT put the Bike in Gear to try and remove Nuts And bolts over getting the Tools needed for Removal and Assembly.
This will lead to broken Gears in the Transmission. Also MAKE sure to Replace the Stators Bolts that hold the Stator to the Case due to they get Weak and will pop off the Heads of the Bolts. Post up if needed. So you can riding again.*Jimi
