Fork Seal How to Video

Finally got my how to video finished and on YouTube. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. This is the first time I have done this, fairly simple if you are slightly mechanically inclined. Work on your bike at your own risk!

Well, I hope this video helps. It really is simple to do.

Here are the tools I made
1-1/4" PVC T

"spring compressor" just drill it out the size of the shoulder of the plastic clip then cut it out with a dremel. With a helper, just push down and put the wrench in, or use straps.

Wow - this is going to be SO great to have access to. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I'm about 1,500 miles away from needing to do forks, so end of the summer for sure. It definitely looks doable...

Where does everyone get their fork rebuild kits from? been on eBay and I'm gun shy to purchase. I looked up showa 41mm fork rebuild kit and get a lot if kits for Harleys ... Help please

Ive had good luck with the allballs kits so far. 3k miles on em.
To find your's you can use the allballsracing.com to find the part number then search ebag or amazon usually around 20 bucks for a seal kit.

I think the kit you need is 56-132

Be sure to double check what forks you have, not all are 41mm 03-04 are all 41mm, all years SCG are 41mm, 05+ are 43mm(except SCG)

Be sure to also get the bushings, not just the seals [up]

Got mine from ASB, you have to get them all separately, but totals about $47

One tip I would include to anyone not wanting to mar the surfaces on the preload adjusters and fork caps is to put a ziplock bag over those surfaces before wrenching.
Otherwise, good on you for posting this!

midget: that is a fine vid and i commend you for taking the time to produce it and post it. let me add a few things to those tackling this job. don't know if you mentioned it in the vid:
1-refer to service manual for fork oil viscosity and DRY FILL quantity. don't over fill
2-when you remove the spring mark the top. it is the more tightly wound portion. mark it as it has to go back in same direction.
3-lightly coat the outside of each seal when installing. makes installation alot easier. then wipe clean.
4-outside of the tube must be nick free and squeaky clean during reassembly so as to not nick new seal.
5. all fork seals always installed with spring AWAY FROM ATMOSPHERE.....moulded printing side of seal to atmosphere.

I mentioned all but 3 and 4

I spilled enough oil between the clips to have it lubed enough lol

And I left that the inner fork tube needs to be nick free, but this is just to show how to change the seals. Didn't want to get into diagnosing the issue.
