I have to apologize to the Buell community…

A while ago I posted on painting frame pucks and received some flak from Buell members over functionality vs. aesthetics.

I'm Sorry… I can't help myself…
I'm abscessed Buell Modder…
I like the Fame too much to have a black dingus hanging there disrupting the lines…

Thanks for all the comments everyone...

I think the Buell Frame is the focal point of the bike. It's innovative, and dare I say it, sexy.
If you have the Black or Darker color frame, the pucks blend into it to create a uniform look.
I'm just trying to do the same for the silver frame.

I like it, it's form and function blended together perfectly. I can't for the life of me comprehend why anyone would have a problem with this. :shrugs:

What's wrong with painting the frame pucks? How can putting paint on the outside damage their integrity?

IMO the silver frame pucks look awesome and I wish I did that to my bike before putting them on.

that being said, hope it sticks, only time will tell.

Your right BuellyBagger...

I did spend some time on it though, hoping for the best.

The residue from the mold release agent was tough to clean. (Part of the manufacturing process.) I used pre-cleaner 4 or 5 times and still got residue. Then I took some reducer and applied it generously to the puck to soften the plastic / rubber, waited 5 minutes for most of the reducer to flash off and then sprayed the base coat. As a test I used my fingernail to scratch the puck to see if the black would show and it didn't. My intent was to use the reducer to draw (melt) the color into the puck. Then I clear coated it. So hopefully this will last. ( The clear coat may chip, but the underlying color will still be there.)

The other pain was taking a razor and cleaning the edge of the puck of any stray plastic hairs. Because these would be the first thin to break off of the puck edge exposing the black.

Some people say it makes the bike slide further if laid over while moving causing more damage, they say the same about having carbon fiber puck covers. I dont really see a layer of paint making it slide further though.

Ha! That reminds me of when some drunk genius 20 years ago tried to convince me that my bike back then was a death trap (EX500...er, ok). He said his son was killed when he crashed his sportbike, and as a result he now hated all sportbikes. He was convinced that sportbikes with plastic fairings crashed harder and faster due to the fairings making them gain speed after they were laid down.

There was so much fail in his logic (or lack thereof) that all I could reply was "Sorry for your loss."

I believe that any crash at speed will total any bike. Frame Pucks will not help in that situation.

The reason I installed these on this bike was for my O'Lady. I am more concerned of a low speed tip-over or when she is moving it around while parking. In that case, these little babies will save me from a total loss or a major price tag in repair bills.

thats the most rediculous thing i have ever heard.
I think you nailed it, looks great [up]
