I have a 2004 XB12R and need a new front rotor. I would rather not spend $300 for a new one but will if I have to. I found one a a local MC salvage yard one is on an 09' the other on an 06' will either of those work. Thanks

Why does the dot have to go by the stem
what squid said ref. the dot. it is a reference to point correct surface of the rotor outward and also indicates the lightest part of the rotor so that it is installed on heaviest part of the rim. the valve stem area of any rim is generally considered to be the beefiest....at least in theory.

Ok playing devils advocate: I can understand marking the outside of the rotor, but saying that its the lightest area of the rotor doesn't make sense. Is there a structural difference in that area? dimensional difference? different casting or forging of that area?

but saying that its the lightest area of the rotor doesn't make sense.

perhaps it's in the final machining of the rotor as opposed to the original stamping. don't specifically know but do know that EBR states the "dot" coincides with 2 things: the rotor surface that faces away from the wheels' center and the lightest portion of rotors' circumference. other than that your guess is as good as mine.
