Oh boy.

Okay.... few months ago, I had an exhaust leak, front header, before I got it home I noticed my front cylinder began misfiring.... alot. Dramatic loss in power. I blew out the front gasket on the header (lead ring)anyways, started on and off misfiring, every few seconds. got it home....

Tipped motor slightly, changed gaskets, front and back.

went to crank bike, wont fire without throttle and wont idle properly. Im also pretty sure my front cylinder isnt firing at all.... Doesnt get hot and isnt firing.

Im pretty scared its serious. hoping its simple. Where do I start?

2005 Buell XB12R
50K miles
I live in florida

1st plugs and related wires (I had this twize)
2nd crank position sensor
3nd injection or ECM

I hope its item 1 as the others or expensive

Most of us have had this happen on our buells',change the plugs, when my bike fouls a plug it is always the rear one.

I have to tip the motor again, My worry has outweighed my confidence, but I also think I didnt get my back exhaust tight enough.

Do you think its possible my ecm is just out of whack from the front exhaust leak? I drove two miles with basically an open header. I was trying to just get it home. Im going to take pictures as we speak.

hopefully you did not burn up a exhaust valve. I would go over everything on the bike you can like the plugs wires do a TPS reset and check everything with ecm spy and then if all else fails time to take the engine down and do a top end rebuild.

my low fuel light has been faulty for a few months, I just found out why.

Its only the yellow and black.

anyone have info?

also, note that my front cylinder's exhaust wrap is still yellow, ie, no heat. ie no fire. ie headache

If you have ecmspy you can check and see if the coil is working. Or pull the plug out and see if its fouled and or getting spark.

1)I dont have ecm spy
2) I will be doing that with the spark plug here today once the sun isnt cooking me.
3) I really hope its just a plug.
4) Do you think that cut wire would affect anything other than low fuel light

if it was running fine for a while with the wire cut then it might not be the issue. But i would fix it asap. how old are the plugs that are currently in the bike? Im sure you have heard that if you start the bike and blip the throttle and then shut the engine down it will foul the plugs.

more than a year old? Ived it for a year and a half. Havent changed them yet. I have a feeling its the plug.

do I HAVE to til motor for that?

looks like I might have to take my bike to harley.

im not looking forward to that.

Also, I need a new shift drum or fork. It hangs going into third and wont lock into first properly.

I know. bike has ton of issues.

No you don't. The front plug can be reached by removing the side scoop. The rear is a bit trickier, check out the DIY section for videos. You need a swivel socket, patience, and a length of tube.

Its really not too bad, the biggest danger I've had is damaging the plug wire by pulling on it (even with needle nose pliers).
