Hey guys - just picked up a '03 XB9 and have a question.

While sitting on the bike tonight I pulled the front brake and rocked the bike back-n-forth and I heard a ticking noise as the bike was moveing fore and aft. It sounds like the brake maybe. I'm thinking it is the disk 'floating' - just wanted to make sure everything is cool. It is an all stock bike with only 3000 miles on it.

Check the torque on the front rotor bolts and caliper pin bolts. Shouldn't be a problem, just check them in case.

I found the exact same thing the other day and yes if you get two people and look closly its the minute amount of play on the rotor. Should be fine

if it's not that, try holding the steeringwheel sideways, move forward & back...if it ticks, it's the triple-tree bearing.

but it can also be the front suspension

Mine ticks every time I turn the bars hard left or right. Mainly when i'm manuvering it in my garage, I figured it was a bearing aswell.

could also just be the clutch connection cable/handle if you have a bit of free play.

if it's the bearing, aslong as you don't feel any vibrations during riding (free, without hands), it should be no problem. ;)

Thanks guys - great response.

Can anyone tell me what the torque spec is for the rotor bolts? or where I can find the spec without having a service manual (yet).

Thanks

34-37 nm or 25-27 ft-lbs

tighten them on opposite side (cross) to avoid deformation of the rotor.

if you work on your bike yourself i urge you to get a manual...;)
