Front rotor alignment mark?

I'm swapping out the wheels on my XB12S. The wheels I picked up don't have any of the hardware on them, so I moving the brake rotors from my old wheels to the new (to me) ones. The manual states that there should be some sort of reference dot on the front rotor that lines up with the valve stem. I have a center punch mark on one of the mounting tabs; does this just go to the closest position to the stem? This doesn't quite match the instructions in the manual.

I'm probably over-thinking this, but I figure I might need to use the brakes some day and I want to know that they'll have a decent chance of working when I do....

YES

Front caliper mounting bolts torqued to 25 ft-lbs......in "star" pattern sequence
Align tire manufacturer sidewall balancing "dot" with OEM wheel paint "dobs" for lower balancing weight requirements

I can't tell if they aligned the new tires when they put them on the rims. I'm going to give the balancing beads a try.

Beads work really well up to about 120 mph. People have opinions about them - I have experience. They work and they provide a glass smooth ride.

I don't think I've been above 120, so I should be in good shape! A friend of mine put them in his bike & he thinks they're great.

The Dunlops that were on this bike never gave me a feeling of confidence, especially on anything beyond a damp road. I'm trying a set of Road 6's and am hopeful that they'll feel a bit better.

Yes Sir my pleasure. I have no experience with balancing beads but if Jimmy says they work well then perhaps give them a shot.

Have never seen it mentioned in service or owners manual but when doing any tire work in the future...always try to find the paint "dobs" that the Italians put on the inside of every XB wheel and mount the tire with the tire balancing "mark" 180 degrees opposite those "dobs". Saves a bit of required balancing weight.
