Fuel Quantity Sensor

Any way of recalibrating the quantity sensor or checking it?
Supposed to have .7 gallons left when the light comes on, but i can only put 2.5 gallons every time and may be a little more if i run for 10 miles after that.
Running a 2005 XB12S.

the light actually comes on a bit before actual reserve because of corners, braking, etc.

Right now i still have 1.2 gallons left in my tank.... I want to run it dry to see how far it will go but i have heard that if i run dry i will kill the fuel pump.
That true???

The tank has two sides guys, lean it to the left rock the bike and it will pull the fuel from the right side of the tank. Thats why your readings are off. The level is low enough on the left side to trigger a light, but more of the fuel is in the right side.
