Hi, my recently purchased 99 X1 has the breather hose from the fuel tank disconnected. The hose still appears to be there but about 6 inches too short to reach the fitting. Is this of immediate concern? Where can I purchase a new hose or are there alternatives ie Napa etc

thanks

If you fill it, and park in the sun, it could puke out some fuel; so I would replace it. You can buy some hose at an auto parts store. I replaced mine with clear vinyl tubing from the hardware store because I like the look.

You should use FUEL LINE, not vacuum line or clear line, etc...

But yes it is a vent AND an overflow, so replace it and it should run under the bike where it would drip on the nothing but pavement.

People have been using clear vinyl tubing for fuel vent lines since I was a kid. You can buy it from most motorcycle supply houses, but it is the same as that which is available at the hardware store. It has lasted for years, on my bikes.

I'm sure it's ok usually, but sometimes it could catch fire or other issues. Probably not in this case as it's not pressurized....but still just spend the couple bucks and be safe.

If you have a carbed Bike with a Gravity Fuell Tank then the Clear fuell line is fine just know that most Oil and gas mix tools of the day use that now. The Heat issues of the V Twin Engine is intense and the clear hose is fine but will get brittle faster than it used to.Rubber Fuell Line hose if you are an everyday Rider .
The older bikes of the day most Street Bikes NOT race bikes used the clear due to no real pressure was on the line like Fuell Injection today is. Make sure to get Extra Line and keep it out of Sun and the Elements. Look at your bike really good to run the Line down to a safe area away from the Rear tire.
It may seep from heat and so on. Good Luck on your choices. *Jimi
