I have noticed after my recent oil change with Mobile 1 20-50 full syn my engine noise is a lot more noticable. A tapping or knocking noise from the rockers or lifters. Should I use a standard 20-50?

Try a different brand.. When I switched to Mobil 1 in my truck I noticed the same thing, My motor got noisy, tapping lifters and such.. On the next change I went back to what I had been using and the motor noise went away..

i went to castrol Power RS V-Twin 4T Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil - SAE 20W-50

my shifts seem smoother and I'm burning less oil....surprised me - xb12r 09'

Let me bust this little guy out right now.

Nice nitto :D

I noticed this very thing...just lifter clatter. I didn't think it was any big deal. I've had cars with a LOT worse noise!

It all comes down to personal preference... I used to use Amsoil, and no complaints, but now its' HD 20w50 and HD Formula + in the trans. Quieter engine, Shifts better, but i got lots of kms.. 64,000..

I'm running Mobil1 V-Twin 20W-50, but haven't noticed any change in noise. It burns less oil now than during break-in with H-D dino 20W-50. I have the Castrol V-Twin syn on the shelf that I stocked up on during a sale. We'll see how that goes.

I bought the same oil after I had just bought my used XB12R (for a "baseline" oil change), and then I read on here of someone saying what you describe would happen. Further reading revealed several recommendations for AMSoil V-twin 20W-50. So I took the Mobile 1 back for a refund and ordered some AMSoil. I really like it:

I run Amsoil in everything I own - including my daily driver (which I put over 1,000/week on). I'm sure other oils are good as well... but at least in the vehicles I use it in I would never switch to anything else.

^^ I'm so glad we don't really get a lot of snow in NC - and it doesn't get too cold either - 71 yesterday and today! High of low 50s over the next week.

I was little disappointed with Amsoil, switched to it when i did my last oil change, motor and primary. Used M1 up to that point. Motor is still as noisy, sounds like a sawing machine, and shifting hasn't improved at all. I might have been expecting an epic change, along the lines of aura coming off the motor and heavenly music playing when i put that stuff in because most people say great things about that oil, but it was a bit of a let down. Considering going back to M1 because it's little cheaper and easily accessible at my local Auto Zone. Only reason i tried Amsoil and might stay with it is because they signed that sponsorship deal with EBR.
