I have noticed that the garage smells like gas when I park the bike.

There is no visible gas leaks, and I have noticed a slight drop in MPG, but that could be me going crazy.

Any suggestions on where it could be coming from?

Only recent changes were a TunerPro tune. But the smell did not start right away. Around 2-3 weeks after the tune.

Ideas?

running rich?
exhaust leak around your flanges?
Did you change the amount of fuel fed to your engine?
are you overfilling your tank....do you have a lawn mower in your garage now....maybe a gas can......

I've noticed the same thing and I noticed mine started as soon as I brought my bike home. I may be wrong, but here's my take on it - my Buell is the third bike I've owned. It is considerably hotter than any bike I've ever ridden, which I think can be attributed to the 1203 v-twin that is mostly hidden. As a result, the heat it transfered to a bunch of places - some gets sucked out by the fan, the rss helps push some more out, but I honestly think the frame sucks up a lot of the heat......which, in turn, heats the fuel.

I think you get a lot of vapors coming out the breather line after a ride, which easily smells up the garage.

I've gone into the garage other times and smelled gas, but it's not as strong.....for those times I attribute it to the vent line, my lawnmower, and a gas can I have sitting in the corner. By far the most gas I smell is a few minutes after a ride.

Someone may be along shortly to tell me I've been sniffing too much gas and don't know what I'm talking about......which may be true.

Seems to me to be a big issue, and the most suprising part is that I haven't heard anyone with any definitive reason for a cause (they all run hot, why don't they all stink like gas), or any real solutions.

mentioned here

and here

and several other threads which all just trail off without resolution...

I believe it was mentioned in some of the other threads that putting a charcoal canister in the vent line would probably help. I haven't heard of anyone trying it though.

I also have the same assumption about the engine heating up the gas in the frame causing excess vapors. I just leave my bike sitting outside for a little while before pushing it into the garage.

Thanks for the replies.

There is nothing else that the smell could be coming from, no lawn mowers or anything like that.

I did up the fuel to the engine, so im sure it is running a bit richer.

Now that I think about it.. It started to stink once it started to get cooler outside.

Humm, Ill look the bike over tomorrow and see if I can find any stains or anything.

Thanks again!

I have the gas smell any time I start the bike. It smells bad for a view seconds after starting the engine and then disappears... any idea on this???

What I checked so far

1) Air filter (standard)... looks good to me
2) Fuel pump&hoses visually ... nothing
3) spark plugs ... were dark oily, cleaned them with no effect

On a Hot ride, the gas boils and ensuing vapors flow out the overfill tube is probably most of it. Also, it's worse with low-octane, old, or bad gas. Check your MPG against what you've always gotten to make sure theres nothing amiss or leaking. If it's about the same then it's probably just vapors.

The smell appears as well on cold start, no leak or gas to be seen... the smell is likly to come from th emuffler but as well from the air intake... so WTH is it????

I have 2 Buells now and 1 in the past. After every ride they have had a strong gas odor. Looked allover for leaks and have never found a problem.
