I have been getting a gas smell after riding for a few hours. Have not overfilled anything, just the smell of airborne gas.....no leaks....any answers? I do not think it is a major thing, but I may be heading to Alaska...and want to clear up any potential problems...

I have the same thing. I was told a possible new seal, or gasket for the gas cap. I haven't tried it yet

Just to be sure, check your vent tube line from the top under the Airbox cover on the XB bikes all the way down down on the left near the lower area of your foot peg. See if it seeps just a bit here and there.
Might want to check your inner air box area to see if a line has come loose a bit. The bikes kick stand leans to the left when at rest. SO, especially if it has run a while OR it was a Hot day the Vent up in the frame will seep a bit, especially if you are accidentally overfilling the Tank OR Frame that is.
I smell mine and check the hose down at the left foot peg and every once in a while it will be damp. It has done this since it was new.
Bike runs fine.
Hope this helps. Check the manuals here on the forum for the area you are working the Fuel Vent area is almost the Same on the XB models of bikes for many years. Good Riding. *Jimi

Might be running rich, I smell like I took a shower in gas after riding my shovel head.

There is no adjustment screws for rich or lean on those bikes The older XB buells have only a Idle Screw up front of the Left air scoop area.
08 plus Buells Idle and Fuell is controled by the ECM/ECU.The 2008 and newer have
a Key turn and Throttle TPS reset. Since the I,m assuming it it Stock Air Box Air Intake Vent is close up at the Top of the Bike you will at times smell the fuell especially if the Bike has a short ride or overfilled Tank OR something like that.
YOUR Engine[ Stock] Shovelhead usually has Carbs on it. Either the Bike you are riding is running too rich LARGE jets wrong Air filter or possible seeping gasket, or fuel line. Please check that area. The Shovelheads havent been made since around 1982. They are good engines as long as they are well tuned and well maintained. Good Luck. *Jimi

^^ What TPEHAK said the drain tube is behind the left foot peg and when tank gets hot you will smell gas. Had same problem till I put right side scoop and put race ecm on bike now don't smell it like I did. ( That is if your bike is stock? )

Wasn't really looking for help with my other bike, I obviously know it's rich. Nowhere near stock either...

An xb can run rich even if it doesn't have an adjustment screw...

Sorry I said anything...
