Well came across a little problem last week . after getting gas at a station bike rode fine, when I got home and bike sat over night the next morning the bike started but then shut off and would not start . pump would prime at least it sounded fine . pulled plugs and had spark so checked fuel and was not getting fuel so I pulled pump and what I found was this white powder caked on the filter screen at pump . I was like what the hell is this? So the next day at work I saw the fuel delivery guy (did not get gas here) and asked him about it and he said that fuel companies are adding baking powder to gas to wick water out of the fuel. Then said to me if you see a tanker at a gas station don't get gas there because it stirs up the powder from the bottom of the main tank and guess who gets it in there tank (YOU). This gas **** sucks. So everyone be careful. sorry did not take a picture of it I should of.

Passing by a gas station with a tanker parked out front is a common but good piece of advice worth pointing out; thanks.

Regarding the baking soda, I've never heard that one before (though it is hygroscopic so I suppose it's reasonable).

Other life-hacks for gas stations include:

- try filling on cold days when the fuel will be densest

- stop the trigger at 1 litre or gallon to check that you're not being overcharged

- don't overfill or fill too fast because the return circuit will just take back gas which you've already been charged for

- unless your motor actually requires premium fuel, you're just wasting your money on high-octane & you're getting no benefit from it

- try to time your fill-ups by the old rule that prices rise rapidly & fall slowly
