Gauges Question

It appears that all Buell XB models have relatively the same gauges (i.e. wiring harness plug-in, mounting hardware).

Is it possible to take a gauge off of a 2004 XB9 and put it on a 2005 XB12 for a short amount of time?

I do not know if the computer communicates with the gauge in any way on these bikes but friends have done this on Japanese bikes with success. I would be putting the original back on after a short time probably 2 hours tops.

Please let me know your thoughts. I just don't want to create any mechanical issues if it is even possible.

Looking at the schematic, I don't see why not. It looks to be just a display that shows the "state" of everything. There's nothing I see that operates directly from the guage panel. - I wouldn't doubt that you could probably just drive around with no cluster at all. (Remember, I'm saying all this though, and it's not my bike. But it does appear that way.) [smirk]

And the ODO will read the mileage will read whatever the gauge came off of?

yes the mileage data is stored in the cluster itself as far as I know.

Yup, CA here. I am looking at a 1500 mile XB12 from MN and wnat to get it into the state. Looking to get around the BS rules that we have here.

The only difference between the xb12 cluster and the xb9 cluster is the RPM range. The 9 has a higher red line.

Mileage data is stored in the cluster.

make sure 7,500 miles or more is written on the Mn. title. leave that space blank if possible until you know the mileage on the borrowed ic
