I bought a pair of Icon leather gloves, came very highly rated on MotorcycleSuperstore. The problem is the stiching on the fingers always gets wedged between my ring and pinky finger and the grip on my right hand when I am working my throttle. The result is half my throttle hand goes numb or "falls asleep". I don't grip hard and I never lock out my elbows. My left hand never goes numb. I have had this problem with a set of full protection racing gloves too.

Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe someone can recommend some really comfortable high quality gloves?

.... How long have you been riding with them? .. They will probably require a little break-in period ... I have three sets of Icon gloves ( a set of Timax original shorts, a set of Timax original gauntlets, and a pair of their 29ers) ... The Timax shorties used to make half my hand go numb like you describe ... They "wore-in" after a while and now they're the most comfortable gloves I own ... :)

i use oakley factory piolt/ s.i. combat gloves. they work great for me. they my not be motorcycle appoved but they have saved my hands when i flipped my bike along with military operations. very confortable. nreath well. bounce many a june bug and grasshoppers of the carbon fiber knuckel.

I have the alpinestar smx air carbon and they have held up great. ~10k miles maybe with them. They now sell the smx-2 version which I can only assume to be as good or better, but that is not always the case with newer models.

care to part with a pair of the timax???[up]

I have icon 39ers and love the.... My hands go numb as well but it's not the gloves or the bike my first bike made my hands go numb as well.... Cruise control man best thing I did to my buell.... Lock it shake your hand out for a minute or two and good for another 30 minutes

I had a cheap pair of icon gloves for the past few years, I believe I gave all of $20-30 for them. They are comfortable, and great in the summer, but they are not very protective, they have a full leather palm, but the top of the glove is just some form of textile that doesn't seem like it will hold up well if I ever crashed. A month or so ago I was riding and noticed that I had worn a hole in one of the fingertips on my left glove from simple day to day use. So since I can wear a hole in it from simply pulling the clutch in, I hate to imagine what would have happened to them if I ever crashed!!!

I'm in the market for new gloves now......

My leather Icons are the same way with the stitching irritating my fingers - mostly on the throttle side too. I haven't really broken them in yet and right now I'm using mesh Icon because its hot here. Hopefully the leather ones will get more compliant when I use them more.

To be very honest and into the details, the timax gloves are kinda hard to find nowadays unless you get lucky and find a nice used set or a some leftover stock that's selling out on ebay ... I've crash tested several pairs of icon gloves (to include their cheapo line of 29ers) and they perform well actually so you shouldn't worry too much about performance ... But remember, you get what you pay for when it comes to gloves ... And I HIGHLY recommend sticking to the well known brands of gear manufacturers (i.e. Alpinestars, Icon, Joe Rocket, .. and the like) ... the Icon gloves I own came very well made and function excellent on a day to day basis on the street, but they're a little cumbersome at times for faster riding and numb the feedback through the bike's handlebars as to the roads surface quite a bit ... this is not so bad for just everyday street riding, but I wouldn't recommend them for a track day or really white-knuckled rides because of this ... I've used my Alpinestars SP-2 gauntlets for the track and sometimes on the street for the really fast rides on my literbike ... they have a much better flex and I can actually feel what the front tire is feeling on the road through the bars ... MUCH better funtional glove for a track or seriously fast riding ... I also have a set of Bilt gloves that surprised me at how well they fit and look and they were VERY cheap from my local cyclegear ... Their Bilt brand isn't something to be scoffed at, it's pretty well put together and worth a moment or two of consideration when looking for quality riding gear ... Just my $0.02 on the matter ... and a small bit of my experience with my past and present gear :)

In the end, no matter what gloves you end up going with just remember it's better to have any kind of gear at all than no gear whatsoever on any part of the body ... Be it gloves, pants, boots, helmet, jacktet, underarmor, or a full track suit ... Don't dress for the ride, dress for the crash :D ... I'm not an old, seasoned rider yet, but I HAVE tasted enough asphalt to know the meaning of ATGATT so I give advice on gear as sincererly and honestly as possible ...

I usually wear my mothers oven mitts.
Rotfl !!!

I had a similar issue with a pair of Icon gloves. I've got two pairs now. One is the leather and the other is the wet weather pair .I found that my hands went numb for two reasons.

1. I hadn't broken the gloves in yet. Now that they are broken in, doesn't happen anymore
2. I was gripping too hard. Relaxed my grip and feels much better. Just my .02 amigo. Best of luck to you. I love my Icon gear!
