GOING FROM XB9SX TO 09 1125R ANY WORDS OF ADVICE?

i dont know if im getting myself into a frustrating problem or what. ive had my 2010 xb9sx since may and have 9k miles on her, and have never had a problem. and i hear that the 1125r has clutch weeping and bad stators, and flickering displays, and overheating. so should i stick with my xb? or take a leap of faith?

One thing to consider, is the riding position, they are completely different between the two.

I have been considering getting rid of my sTT for one, however, think about this.. I know you've heard it a thousand times but if its not broke, dont fix it! ;P

before you make the switch, i'd put in a hefty ride on a 1125r.
 
NOT A PROB, i plan on putting a xb9 seat on her, and handlebar set up from a xb9, so can relatively keep the riding position.
 
I would say it all depends on what you want. The 1125 will have more of an aggressive riding position but whether it is more or less comfortable is based to the rider.

I have both my R and my fiancé's S and her S is more comfortable around town but my R is more comfortable on long hauls, IMO.

The 1125 will have more power, less mods, harder to find parts and less people with the knowledge to work on it than the XB.

My personal opinion would be to stick to the XB an wait to see if Erik comes out with the 1190 then possibly swap then[smirk]
 
I made the switch and have had a few headaches along the way. The riding position is different like mow said but I have enjoyed mine quit a bit. Its everything my xb9r should have been. Keep the xb and get the 1125? I always felt like my xb9r needed more power and when I went to the 1125r their it was.
 
Coming from someone that went from an XB to an 1125CR, there are several differences to consider.

The XB is almost intuitive in the corners where the 1125 takes a little more work to get it done.

The XB's have been around longer than the 1125's so they have worked the bugs out where the 1125 will most likely have a weeping clutch and/or stator problems.

And I personally think that the XB's have more character too.

But, the fact that the 1125 is a absolute beast makes me forget about the aforementioned downfalls.

It really all depends on YOUR give and takes.
 
I haven't ridden a 9, but I swapped bikes with a friend with a CBR1k. I was bummed with the lack of low-end balls on the CBR, and my friend was blown away by the diesel-like torque of my XB12.

I do know there are few people on some of the other Buell boards that have moved on to 1125s and came back to XBs.

I don't think I'd buy an 1125 without a LONG test ride.
 
Sitting on an 1125R in the showroom was fine but once out on the road with the bumps and dips iI realized leaning forward like that was killing my wrist. The power was great but being a big guy I was really uncomforatable riding it. That's why i've always had Lightnings, for the upright seating position. [up]
 
Guess i should chime in.;)
I bought a Xb9sx road it 15k the first year i had it.
When the blow out sales on the 1125r came out i had to get one.
I put 10k in miles on it this summer.
I have long arms so the riding postion is fine on boh bikes.
The one time i road the xb9 all summer was when the Voltage regulator was acting up.
Xb9sx pros
Low end power
MPG(mid 50's hwy)
Falls into curves
Easy on tires
Cheap on insurance
Dependable (road it twice from mi to nc 12 hours straight).

1125r Pros
Ton of power wheelies at will
Nice fairing blocks tons of wind
6 gears and alot more rpm
better headlight

xb9sx cons
tons of wind
Low hp top end

1125r cons
more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ insurance
stator and regulator worries on 09 and 10 miles (no issue on 08)
bad mpg 35 hwy
Eats tires ( i run a softer compound since it will spin anything harder)

That sums up my compartive I have given my GF my xb9 to ride and have been adjusting it to fit her better.

The overall power and look of the 1125r won it's place as my choice of bike .All summer when i had both i always road the 1125.
 
my advice... make sure you keep your xb!!!!

they are two very different bikes. both fun and effective for what they are designed to do, but the 1125 is very much more responsive and about perfomance and function where as your xb, although quick, is more handling and the 'lout' factor that only your awesome xb and aircooled motor can give.

my 09 1125cr had both the stator recall and clutch weep fixed and now is just awesome fun. no other hassle since. .... well not true! i now go too fast on her ALL THE TIME and have already had a run in with the local plod after only my third ride out. the xb always meant i was having fun but not necessarily speeding. it just did it all differently.

on the CR recently, i just did a round trip 4000klm buell ride with mates over 6 days and i found it comfortable every moment of the way. no different to my firebolt. but i use my core strength when riding and am in preference of that slight forward position.

i have both a xb12r and 1125cr. i wouldnt give up either. the lady has the xb9sxcg... and i gotta say that riding that with the higher bars, is just different fun again.
 
oh, and let me tell you right now...

to fit a XB tail on to the 1125 is freaking hard and difficult.

there is no where enough room for everything. you need a lithium race battery and then some leap of faith to fit it, or mod your wiring. mod your undertail for the shock, but then be carefull to save space.

you need to sort your regualtor. it currently is mounted to a plate on your alu frame under your seat that helps disperse the heat. your xb sub frame does not have this and there is no room to mount it effectively. so you need to work a solution here for both mounting and heat dispersion.

adaptors need to be made to adapt the frame to the bike, but the one guy i found who does this... doesnt tell you that you need to cut your right rail down, nor by how much. offers no tech spec or anything of hte info above that i just encountered when trying. no pics, no details when asked... just happy to take your cash and then advise you need to adapt your adaptors to suit. they are generic, so even come missing correct hole locations.

you wont get a xb tail on a rotax bike very easy... its not like swapping a firebolt and a lightning... i ahve done this before. if you manage, then document it as i would like to know. i have the adaptors already.
 
A guy on another forum did that and it looks amazing. Good luck if you try it.

I have a 2006 xb9sx and a 2009 1125r, I would go with keeping both but not every one can do that. The lightning is more comfortable to me and I think most of the time I like it better, but i've had it longer and am more comfortable with it. On the other hand the 1125r is a lot more comfortable than the 636 ninja i used to have, and when my friends (mostly jap bikes) want to play, the 1125r is the one to be on. I don't know if i've helped but I couldn't decide either so I kept the 9 and bought the 1125r.
 
went from an 03 xb9R to an 08 1125R. I couldnt be happier with the switch. Dont get me wrong, I loved the 9r for what it was, but my 1125 gets a lot more attention than my old xb9 did. it is faster, revvs higher, and there is a 6th gear incase you ever run out on 5th gear (not that that happens too often as 5th gear tops out at nearly 150 mph.)

There are some issues, but most Buell techs know about them and how to fix them all fairly quickly by now. Buell tech's arent in as short of supply as people think because most Buell Techs also work on Harleys. In my opinion, There are just as many aftermarket parts available for the 1125's as the xb's especially since most of the plastic body work is interchangable.

in the end, go with your gut. or, do what I did. Keep the XB until you have ridden the 1125 enough to know which you like better, then sell the other, or keep both.
 
If you like 30mpg?

I get between 35 and 40 on my 1125 on in town riding, and between 40 and 45 on the hiway. If I really run it ragged I get about 32MPH in town. but lets face it... if you are using your bike for the gas mileage, you really dont need an 1125R, it would be a waste of power
 
had a xb9 sold it for the cr, no regrets. Less likely to see any other CRs around. I like to be different :D.
