Well sold my XL600R that my soon to be 16yr old son was riding, and now want to get him a Buell.Been waiting for this day for a long time next spring I have a new riding buddie!!!!!!!!!!!!!Anything I should look for?Bike looks clean.Any input would be helpful. Thanks Guys!

Oil leaks. Rotor warp. Any evidence that theyre trying to hide something. Just make sure it rides right. Ask why theyrr selling and what mods were done. Check for wires rubbing. The normal I guess

Depends very much where u are and how much u can fix your selfe. Basically look for oil leaks, stearing and wheel bearings, check the charging voltage... Condition of the belt and battery. good luck and have fun... my son is 5 and I think I will not live long enought to ride with him.

Buying a 16 year old a xb12... You sure about that?
An XB12S will run up to 135 MPH...

^^ agreed im 21 had to buy my own bike after having dirtbikes and snowmobiles my whole life and this bike still scares me. im use to doing 80mph on a one lane road with tress and a 100ft cliff to my left, so scary norm isnt im my vocab.

He'll be fine on the xb12. It's all about having respect and restraint when riding ANY bike. I started on an intruder 1400 when I was 15. Nobody even told me how to drive one. I started off in the yard just practicing clutch engagement and riding around the house on the dirt. Then I went to a BRC which provided much more road confidence.

I do agree with everyone that with power you need a great amount of maturity! Do I think my son will never go, fast not in a million years, But I have instilled in him where and when to do so. My son and I have a contract with rules that he has to meet to have a bike,so at anytime he will lose the bike no matter what!Did I mention his Mother has a giant say so in when he rides and when he doesn't ride, so there are a lot of rules that there is just not enough space on the page to put it all. Thank you for the concern that's what family is for!

Yeah man! My parents raised me with a good head. At 16 I was riding a 1600! But I respected the heck out of that bike!

There is a time and place for everything

^^^ Seriously. He's gonna get so much tail. Gonna have to go through the birds and the bees with him again.

Might as well get him an extra helmet now also. Hes gonna have an endless line of highschool girls waitin for a ride.[up]

my 16 year old brother in law has been rockin our XB12Scg the last few weeks since we sold our 250 Ninja. He has been doin well on it. He has a huge grin on his face whenever he opens it up a little. He wants to get himself an XB when the time comes for his own bike. He likes the Hero Blue and the Orange translucids.

I had to buy mine, but my dad drove 7 hours with me to pick it up. He is a lucky kid, and if he respects the bike it will respect him.

Although when I do ride with my dad he always goes, you ready to ride a real bike now?? (another harley dad)

sounds like mine.

teach him well Agate he will be fine. I bought my xb when I was 19 and then my 1125 at 21. Good luck with everything.

As long as you show him how to respect the bike he should be fine.

My old man said stuff like that until the first time he rode my 1998 S3. He let the clutch out like he was riding his 78 shovel and stood it straight up at a light. A week later I was on my way home from work and I saw him on my bike on the oppsite side of the road doing a rolling burnout. He steals it all the time should have never gave him a key.:D

the best advice i can give you is test ride. check the oil also smell it. also remember while your riding it the main feature of a buell is the suspension, which will not be set up to your weight or riding ability. look at the pads and front seals. i also like to look under the seat. most people forget to clean under it and i always look at the fuse box to see if the fuses have had been changed which would lead me to believe there might be a wiring problem.

also i think it's funny when i hear i'll of these comments

you guys do understand the 16year old was riding a honda xl600r. which is maybe 20-30mph slower(depending on tires and gearing)then a buell with more torque. so he'll feel right at home on a buell.
