I bought a new Race ECM for my 06 Uly from Liquid Asset Partners. There's nothing wrong with the stock ECM that I currently have except that it's stock and I'm running a K&N and a Hawk Muffler. (I am getting a 21 code with an intermittent Engine Light. It has to be the Interactive Exhaust Actuator since the cable is disconnected. I'm looking forward for this CEL going away with the new ECM. I don't use ECMspy, so I can't eliminate the code with the stock ECM). I am looking forward to using ECMspy down the road. In its current set up it's actually running great but I realize it's not ideal due to fuel/air ratio issues.
The ECM that I bought is mapped for a Jardine Muffler. LAP wasn't selling any ECMs mapped for a Hawk. So the question that I have is: Do you think the Jardine mapping of this Race EMC is close enough that I don't have to do any ECM re-mapping? Can I just plug and play? Should I drive it through a "learning cycle"? Also, I bought this ECM for a spare, but also so that I can play with ECMspy in the future without the worry of screwing it up and being without a ride.
Any help is appreciated.

You'll be fine just plugging the new ECM in. Hawk and Jardine exhausts are similar enough to each other that you'll be in better shape using the new EBR ECM than using the one for the stock muffler and being lean, like now. The only exceptions that I have experienced are the 'extreme' exhaust options (EBR Race muffler, KEDA, and open pipe). But a stock ECM would be more lean for those as well.

IMO the DDFI system has enough closed loop adjustability to make up for any tiny difference in those pipes for what you are doing now.

You can (and sounds like you will) get into ECMSpy, ECMDroid, or whatever, to learn and test out new stuff. It will be nice to have an extra ECM just for piece of mind. The internet screams about "bricking" an ECM if you program it wrong, but I believe there are other things at work besides simple fuel map programming that could cause that. I have yet to experience that and I'm not even that bright:black_eyed:

If you either blow-up the ECM or just get halfway done programming and still need to get to work, then just swap in the other one:up:

Don't forget: you can't "just plug in" an ECM on a Buell. It will probably run like crap, if it starts, due to the TPS signal not being calibrated with the new ECM. You have to perform a TPS reset when changing out ECMs.
03-07 bikes require a cable, 08-10 can be done via the ignition key and twist grip.

AZ- when was the last time you contacted Exoptiinside.com for anything?
I haven't had much luck receiving a timely response the few times I've contacted Mike.
But to his credit, he did eventually return my emails.

I think if anyone is going to mess with their ECM they need to do a lot of research. It's not as simple as downloading a map from BuellRaceBoy.com or whatever. Every bike and every environment said bike operates in is different. Learn to data log and go that route.

So, I could take the new Race ECM and bike down to my local Buell-friendly HD dealer and have them do a TPS reset and use the old stock ECM for future data logging and a spare? I've done quite a bit of research reading a lot of old posts, but somehow I get lost in the weeds. There's so much info out there. Just when I think I'm understanding it, something takes me for a loop. Guess I need to roll up the sleeves and just do it one of these days, hence the spare. I'm riding this Uly XC this spring and I'm trying to get it tuned nicely for the 3K+ mile ride.
On another note, I rode up Hwy 1 to Big Sur yesterday with the stock ECM and Hawk. It ran like a champ. Seemed to run cooler too. I did about 220 miles, tons of twisties, and what a blast.

Proceeding cautiously.

That's what I did about 7years ago when my bike was new and I knew nothing of ecmspy or forums.
Only, I had my whole front end taken apart(I have a firebolt) and swapped ECMs in the parking lot. Then rolled the bike, without starting it, to the service area and told them what I needed.
This way I didn't get charged any labor for removal or replacement of ECM. All I was charged for was the TPS reset.
I think your ECM is under your seat so this will be a lot easier for you to accomplish.
Yes. I know. I'm a cheap bastard.

Im famliar with the area. Every year a group of Buell riders head to Laguna Seca for World Superbike. We stop in SLO for a night after riding all day then repeat the next day.
