Got FZ-09?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

They are pretty sweet I hear. But I also hear the suspension is no good and the mapping sucks and that there was some tranny recalls, but what new bike doesnt have issues. I've never owned one and they look like a ton of fun and have mondo power. Like a modern Buell!

haven't read the articles yet...knew about the recall, which was for the shift cam stop that was manufactured incorrectly and affected other Yamaha models as well. joined the FZ-09 forum last night to get perspective of the bike from actual owners and not hipe from media.

One of the few Japanese offerings that kind of excited me lately. I would definitely look into the FJ-09 if I were in the market. You get all the fun of the FZ with removable hard bags.

The FZ-07/09's are pretty sweet. I walked thru the Yamaha dealer earlier this week to pick up some 4wheeler parts and caught site of the new FJ09. That damn thing is pretty sweet!

I test rode an FJ-09 a couple of months ago and came away impressed. It'll probably be my next bike at some point down the road. However, the seat was harder and less comfortable than I expected. But that engine...wow

going to look into a test ride this weekend, then continue reading up on the bike

kona...those articles were great and also one of the guys on the fz forum mentioned the ecu reflash to overcome the throttle issues. have to dig some more into suspension options...

later this afternoon headed out to see about the test ride...mean while have looked into stock and aftermarket accessories. lots of choices, various styles and prices...nothing unusual there. already have a running list, prices and where to get 'em from. first things to be addressed will be ecu reflash and suspension...but need the test ride to confirm all that I've read about these issues. ultimately it's the riders preference on what he/she wants, what's comfortable, choice of what is a must and or a want. which will all come down to budget, time frame and or the "I must have it like yesterday" attitude.
all things considered, the test ride will determine the must have, needs, and wants in the end.

I like the fz09 a lot. I am always thinking about selling my cr and getting either a duc or the fz. or something alittle more city friendly.

I bought an FZ-07, and recently sold it when I was able to buy back my XB12.

It was a decent bike, but the suspension needs work. It's where they save the money. The front forks on Buells are significantly better.
I chose the FZ-07 because it was more flickable than the 09, but it still doesn't handle like a Buell. The power of the engine was pretty good. The FZ-09 is drive by wire, and the stock maps kind of suck and make driving twisty roads a little scary. Someone posted their experience on the Dragon and it was quite eye opening. To be fair, aftermarket tunes seem to solve this but it kind of sucks that you have to pay money immediately to resolve something like that.

I seriously prefer my Buell.

My Suggestion to test drive one. Make sure you drive your Buell to the dealer and then drive the FZ-09 on the roads you just drove the Buell on and that should give you a really good side by side comparison.

throttle and suspension do need to be addressed that's a given. it's going to cost, but in the long run it will be worth it.

test drive wasn't near any roads to really see how she handles in the twisties...central Arizona isn't anything like SoCal, where some great roads were in my back yard, so to speak.

test road the Monster 1200 last year, great bike but not going to pay the ridiculous service charges for the first three times in order to stay within the warranty and Ducati maintenance service plan at 1400 bucks each as I was quoted by the dealer.

$1.90 main and pilot jets plus 1 cent slide needle shims looking better every day.

robin: good friend of mine owns local yamaha dealership. just spoke to him 15 minutes ago on the phone to plan a ride for today. asked him about pros and cons of the F-9 series of bikes. he says they are selling briskly...quite comfy with a few seat complaints from heavier riders....J model roomier than the Z model...and the fueling/mapping in stock configuration is horrible at low speeds. yamaha north america aware of this for many months now and has addressed the problem with dealer tech bulletin dated 3-15-2015. any north american dealer will reflash the ecu for free. according to him the reflashed maps resolve all the low speed jitters and abrupt throttle responses that have plagued the entire F9 model lineup.

lunaticfringe....thanks for the info, dealer didn't mention the reflash...figures, sales guy seemed like a really young kid that got his first job. that's ok...will see him again in the near future.

went to another dealer in town yesterday and they have 17 in stock...was checking out the accessories up close since pictures don't always give the right perspective needed. now that I've seen what factory options are, thinking the Rizoma tail light will be the choice for replacement and some other aftermarket options as well.

so, with that said and everything considered thus far...it's that time to part ways with my Buell and move on. after work today, I'll be putting together a detailed list of all the spare parts I have stashed over the years that will need new homes.

of the three color choices: Yellow, matte gray, and silver....leaning towards the silver with blurple wheels:D

The silver and purple combo does look really good on their website though I'm pretty partial to yellow
