okay, i would LOVE to get some honest feedback here,,, So what makes these things so much better than the traditional steering dampers such as Ohlins or the many others,, you know,, where they use the long shaft and pivot balls into the shock absorber tube/body??

So, basically it clamps on in some fashion to the steering stem shaft and based on the settings the valving dampens the steering?

And according to the ad copy linked above,, the internal valving is superior to anything else out there based on the multiple settings you can select? (20 right?) So i have seen them on some Buells, but never ridden with one fitted,

So,, besides the obvious point 50-dro is selling them (nothing wrong with that [up]

I am wondering,, do the average user feel its well worth the rather err ahem, stiff price these things command?

So, honest feedback would be great,,, The Buells ARE rather twitchy, especially my S1 lightning (any one use these on a tuber?) so,, a steering damper would be a good idea i think. I dont have the problem spending the money if its worthwhile, but its gotta be more than shiny billet and pretty colors to make it worh while,. rather than clog up his post/thread, feel free to PM me direct instead. Id been looking at these for a while but I would love to hear some first hand accounts if they are worth the coin.

back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Not a problem Internet. You have a valid point. Unfortunately, I'll have to defer to the members that have used them as u don't have one on my bike (yet). Also...they only have them for the XB and 1125. Sorry.

Go ahead and post your opinions here. I don't mind at all. It is a lot of coin to drop so I'd rather we all be informed buyers;)

They have pics of them on an XB Lightning and a CR. I'll post them up a little later.

Thanks everyone! [up]

okay,, [up] for being cool about it. I reread that and was debating editing or removing that as i thought it was a bit much, even for me. As my buddy says.. " I'm best taken in small doses" but my point is the same.,,, I dont mind spending money for something if its worthwhile and has value. Buells overall are super good value for the money, and any mods and upgrades have to be weighed against the idea that
"Does the bike really need that or does it really improve it?" Its like hopping up a Sportster vs a Buell. A sporty you can get HUGE improvements, Buells are pretty good as is...:)

Adjustability is one thing.... BEING ABLE TO ADJUST IT on the fly is another.

Notice you can easily grab it with a gloved hand and turn it up for highway riding. Or turn it off for parking/gas stations. This is how my brother uses it on his Hypermotard. It's twitchy, and even more so at hwy speeds, and more so in the wind (all sound familiar?).... so he'll turn it up then.

Also, it just looks SO much better than the shafty looking ones. And won't skewer your leg in an accident either :D . No, never actually heard of that.

GPR is rebuildable, right? Are shafty ones?

I've pretty much had GPR on my "to do" list since I bought the bike. But aren't cheap (relevant to my pocket). I'd still love to hear an Buell specific info!

EDIT: After seeing the photo... the logo direction will cause a major conflict with gas cap installation direction.
EDIT EDIT: The logo faces the other way in 5odro pics.

I had one on my 2005 ZX6R which was very twitchy on the front end. I bought this one because I liked the clean look and right in front of your face adjustability of it. I got a smoking deal on it at the 2005 Laguna Seca GP after meeting their people and negotiating for one during their packing up. I absolutely loved it. It cured all my front end nervousness and made the bike track extremely well afterwards. I highly recommend the product for anyone looking for a damper and want one for my 9SX but need to save up some cash (and possibly get different bars to fit it). I'd have taken it off and kept it but my 6R was stolen in 2007 and never recovered. Now that I see the pricing, It's way more than I payed for mine back in '05 but the product is very high quality and it is on par, price wise, with some of the others I've seen out there. I'd buy this over others any day.

Thanks for the info guys! Keep it coming! [up] Admittedly, I don't have much 1st hand experience with this product but can tell that it's well made and have never heard any bad reviews on them.

One question...BuellyBagger: That's a Uly right? GPR doesn't list the Uly in their application chart. Is the top triple to clamp to airbox cover relationship the same as with a Lightning?

HERE are some FAQ's from GPR's site that might help with some of the questions we have. Please have a look at it. So yes to the rebuildable question. How often really depends on the use. I suspect that would be handled direct through GPR but we're here to help if you need information.

Just another random thought here.... rebuildable means it'll have a higher resale value. You can sell it as rebuilt, or someone will buy it knowing they can have it rebuilt and have a "like new" unit with no worries.

Mine is upside down because t hey sent me one for a1125cr and I just had them swap me mounting hardware. didn't realize it would be backwards until after I got the correct hardware and by then I just wanted to get it installed.

Yes its a uly X. The Lightning kit fits the Ulysses as long as you're not running any extended risers.

As a matter of fact maybe you could help me out on getting that unit swapped out for one with the emblem oriented properly 5.0?? I tryed to figure it out with Mike/Puzzled which is who i ordered it from, but he never really came up with anything for me. If not no biggy.
If i can find the thread the original group buy thread i did a little write up on my small installation trials.

Found it...

Alright i finally got around to puttin my stabilizer on. Heres the story... I ordered the Lightning set up for my ULy. I received the kit for the 1125CR. No fault of Mikes... and he helped me out with getting ahold of GPR to get the correct parts. We determined that only the brackets were diffferent not the actual unit so i shipped the CRs to San Diego and received the Lighting set a few days later. Finally when i went to installing it i realized that the "GPR" logo is upside down on the CR as compaired to the XB. Not a huge deal i guess. So i got the bar clamp on no trouble... then installed the unit on the clamp and there was not enuff clearance for the arm to move in the well it fits in on the clamp. So i had to run to work and grab a few assorted files and take prolly 1/16 of material off the clamp and then it rotated freely. So in conclusion... this whole install was a bit more of a trial than i had hoped. I'm not in ne way unhappy w/Mike"Puzzled" he was very helpful. I am however a little miffed @ GPR. I really shouldnt have had to do ne filing on the clamp and they should've known the LOGO would face the wrong way on my XB. Hopefully i will be mored pleased with the operation of the product than the install and getting the parts.

Not sure if we can help or not? Probably best to take this off-line. Send me an email with some details etc.

yes they are rebuildable.
gpr recommends having it serviced every season, the first service is free with a copy of your receipt,25.00 after that.
i've been getting around 8,000 miles between services

1.How often should I get my GPR Stabilizer serviced?

We recommend you send in your damper once a season, just as you would with your forks or shock. With frequent use, you may need to send it in more often. Like your suspension, there is no set time frame on when you will need to replace your seals. Some of our dampers have been out there 3-4 years with no fluid or seal change. It stands to reason that if it's not broken, don't fix it. Once you get used to your damper, you will know when it's time to send it in for service.

Thanks anrkizm![up] $25 seems very reasonable.

Dumb question... Aside from milage, how do you know you're ready for service?
