Please help, I'm completely ignorant to the discussion. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just let a garmin zumo 660 go on fleabay for $435. Am I a complete idiot?

Man just buy a simple one, make it fit on your bike. If it rains or you are worried about it, just put it in a ziplock bag. The zumos are a HUGE ripoff.

There is a company called Tech Mount that has water proof holders and all kind of attachment adapters you can adapt to Buells.

I use a Garmin Rhino with a Ram mount. It's waterproof, does turn by turn along with whatever off bike stuff you want to do.

i havent looked into gps very much. im sure i could research on my own but what is out there for customizing your own routes beforehand. i know the zumos have that capability but there must be cheaper ones that do as well

My wife got me a nuvi for christmas. Think it was normally around $200 but was on sale for $80. Either way you can't really go wrong for $80. It doesn't have as many crazy features, but all I need it to do is tell me how to get where I'm going. I bought a handlebar mount for it on ebay for $1.50 shipped and I'm good to go. All I've gotta do now is make a cable for it so I can use it for more than 4 hour at a time off of the battery.

The only thing I haven't figured out yet is if there's a way go to onto mapquest or somewhere like that, and plot out an actual route I'd like to take, and send that to the GPS.

I've had a Garmin Etrex for yrs for on the bikes.
Got a Nuvi for work and think I'll be buying a mount for that sucker soon.
Look at the RAM Aqua Boxes if your worried about weather proof.

Any time I'm doing an out of state ride I at lest have it for the "just incase" issues... atms, fuel, food, etc

I would have loved to get that 660 off you thats the upgrade to my 550 Zumo I've had it on my 12r since the day I bought it and have had NO issues with it.
