hey guys for awhile now ive been trying to figure out how to wire a usb port to my bike and mount a gps unit. So here are some pictures of what i came up with, It works out better then I thought it would! Thought I would share in case there are some of you who wanted to try to come up with a decent cheap setup.

this is the usb port where i mounted it. In that spot it is concealed pretty well and I have easy access to it.

i wired in through the fly screen and followed the other cords straight to the battery and made it a hot lead.

then I needed to find a way to mount the gps and thought it would be a good idea to utilize the empty screw hole where the stock mirrors were. So i found a 1" size bolt to fit it there and made a bracket out of aluminum.

I bent it to where I could see it. Then I went to the oasis on the highway and got a handfull of velcro for the IPASS people. Very sticky good stuff. That holds my gps on very well.

I drilled a hole in the back of the plate so that the charging cord can be plugged into my bike and the gps while on the bracket. It worked out great!! Hope you guys like it.

Thanks! Ill have to post some pictures soon when I finally get to use it. Ive been so busy. It was alot of fun to make.

yea you can get it there pur pony, but I bought mine from this girl..

her name is shelley. 20 bucks for it. It came with the bracket too, I think she said she has some left. shoot her an email she was pretty nice.

it shipped fast too.

If that is a Garmin Nuvi, you'll like it a lot more if you use the cigarette lighter plug instead of the USB. If you use the USB, it verifies if it is a data connection when in first comes on, so it takes twice as long to boot.

I had wired in like yours, just behind the flyscreen, but ditched it and went with a waterproof cigarette lighter outlet instead. Plus, you need that cable for traffic alerts.

If you get traffic alerts.
Not all the Nuvi do.
And also depends on where you live.
Typically only Major Metro areas have traffic tracking.

Nice!!!!, I like that USB hookup! Here's how I mounted my gps

It works great! I just ran some all thread through down and found an acrylic bead that was threaded for the top to clamp my gps to!

For TomTom, these work great too..

there's a weatherproof usb on ebay. It's currently ended, but they relist them frequently. Search for 'USB All Weather Power Outlet/Charger'

I also did a cigarette lighter for my traffic adapter. Wired it behind the flyscreen into the port for the heated hand grips on my '09 xb9sx.

that is true I noticed that it takes awhile, but the reason I decided to do the usb was because I can charge my phone, my ipod, my laptop, and the gps. Plus if I ever get a new phone or a new gps I wont need to worry about buying a new ciq charger.

I was worried about that to, but with that little arm piece I can pull it back some and I have no problem seeing my gauges while riding
