My bike is a 2009 Buell XB12Scg. It needs a clutch. I would have guessed these bikes would have the same clutch for quite a few years including 2009, but a lot of sellers list their clutches fitting up to the 2008 and very few list the 2009 XB12Scg, but some do. That was the first thing I noticed.

I then realized I have two Harley gift cards sitting around and if there is a Harley clutch that is the same I could use those cards for my new clutch, which I'd really like to do. I figured I could do a quick cross reference and find out which clutch would be compatible. To the best I can figure I haven't seen one yet that appears to be compatible, but I've not found a whole lot of information in general. It's not like there are a huge number of these bikes out there anyways.

So I ask you all if you could help, as I feel there must be a Harley clutch out there that will work on this bike. Thank you in advance for all replies.

If you can, get the parts book and look up the part number. You may be able to cross reference to a later year buell or be able to have Harley look up the part number.

That is fantastic information and I thank you. So I could just order a clutch for say, an 09 Sportster 1200 and it would work? Just don't use the riveted plate and that's it?

Any suggestions for anything I should order, inspect, or replace ahead of time while I'm in there? Clutch cover gasket or anything?

The XB clutch packs are NOT the same as the XL packs. The XB uses a unique friction plate at the back of the pack, pn 37899-02A, which is required with the XB jutter spring and spring seat. You can't use an XL plate in place of it unless you remove the jutter spring and spring seat, but the clutch hub is not machined for the XL style friction.

Barnett is the only aftermarket company that has the proper clutch frictions for the XB clutch to retain its original function using the jutter spring.

Alright so the tool I will definitely need, thank you.

The "unique friction plate, pn 37899-02A", is that a Buell part number? If so, where do I get that? No Harley cross reference on that I'm assuming?

If I can get the unique friction plate separately, I can still get the Harley frictions and steels and maybe springs as well I'm guessing?

What's the story with this "jutter spring"?

Once again, thanks a lot guys. This is exactly the stuff I'll need to know.

I just happen to have an XB12 clutch on the bench so here are some pictures for clarity

This is the Hub, with the "jutter" spring and spring seat and the unique last friction plate P/N 37899-02A

Hope that helps...Metz

I've been very busy wrapped up with work and such, still need to handle this clutch at some point, so I need to figure this out.

Googling the part number posted for the unique clutch plate brings back silly prices for a clutch plate. Obsolete Buell part? I don't know.

It was mentioned that Barnett makes the unique clutch plate that I need. What kit is that in? I just want to make sure I get all the right parts the first time.

Judging by how it looks, I'd say the jutter spring doesn't get replaced? I don't think I would replace it. Forget about my Harley gift cards, I just need to know what I need to get this done. Thanks a lot guys.

Barnett & E-1 are your aftermarket options. We sell the E-1 kit on our site. Current price is $118 shipped in the CONUS if you're interested.

PS - The E-1 kit eliminates the judder spring and small plate you referred to.

Will E-1 work longer than stock Buell XB clutch?
