Was just a little curious to see what yall guys think. Is the Hawk louder than the Jardine. And also anybody .02c on the differences...pros cons etc.

The hawk you won't have to repack it every season or so, also it keeps the factory look but with better performance.

The no maitenance factor is definitely a ++ but i am a little conflicted on what route to take. I was wanting to go ahead and spend the extra $ to get the EBR 08+ race ecm pre-tuned for the Jardine and get the Jardine can. Just for piece of mind that it was done correctly, and ALSO so i would then have the option of swapping out if need be.(not to mention not chop my stock muffler). But the no hastle with the Hawk is tempting. I also dont really want to mess with the mapping/tunning if at all possible. That is another driving factor to my decision.

I emailed EBR about which of their race ECMs would work with the Hawk muffler and they told me that the one configured for Drummer would work perfectly fine.

Drummer vs. Jardine, but basically same applies.

You still *SHOULD* retune with any muffler other than stock.

If you want performance, for the XB9 the Jardine is the overall winner except the expensive and no longer being produced MICRON. Note, a lot complain the Jardine is too loud though.

If you want louder than stock, but not as loud as the Jardine, Hawk is hard to beat for the price. Keep in mind it won’t have the performance as the Jardine, but honestly the low revving low overlap nature of these engines it would be hard to notice any performance differences between either pipe. The Hawk may perform better with a stock ECM than the Jardine. Again it's because it has less of a performance so stock ECM mapping may still be acceptable, where the Jardine with a stock ECM runs horribly (bad throttle blip lag, steady state cruising hiccups, bad decell popping).

I'd get more feedback from people running the Hawk with a stock ECM before you make the jump if you're determined to NOT upgrade to a race ECM or remap it yourself.

WOW! That is pretty cool and good to know. But now i'm more confused!!!:p
Hah No actually that will be better. I could then potentially chop my exhaust, get the EBR ecm, and have a little money to track down a replacement stock can! I just want to have the option of going back to stock if need be. And this works out to be an awesome plug and play option. Thanks for the fast responses guys, y'all are awesome.

But now i'm more confused!!

I love my Jardine. Its light, sounds great, and Improved my performance. I just flashed a race map on my bike yesterday. There all good exhausts. Its more personal preference. Also keep in mind with ecm spy you can map any exhaust. No need to buy an expensive ecm.

I just heard a drummer the other day. That sounded badass to. Just listen to a few until you here the sound you want ;)

I have an 08 so i dont think ecmspy will work for me. It would have to be tunner pro i think its called. But i really dont want to fiddle with that. The 250 i think is worth the piece of mind of not having to second guess myself or mess around with tunning. Maybe i am a bit lazy tho...

I just got a Hawk on my 08 xb12. I have the stock air filter and simply did a TPS reset and rode for 30 mins to let it "Learn". The results were amazing. I could really feel the extra umfhp. surprizingly the most difference was felt in the mid and on into the high range. It's recommended to put in the K&N airfilter int here with a TPS reset and the Hawk for optimal results but I only had one more weekend to ride and didn't wanna wait for an air filter. Of course a proper tune will treat you the best but as far as slapping on the hawk and playing with instant results you will be fine.

I will probably go with the Hawk. After reading some old posts i dont think i want ridiculous loud. I would love it for awhile but i think it would get anoying. A buddy of mine had a dodge straghit piped with a stack and while it sounded tuff as hell, long trips to the beach would really suck. He hated it.

Does anyone know if the EBR race ecm really does function with a Hawk muffler. That sounds awesome.

From an email I sent to EBR regarding which ECM to purchase for my Hawk muffler:

The Drummer cal works well on the Hawk.

Yep a lot of Choices AND some are LOUD AND Fragile! The Econo Drummer your ECM can some what LEARN the change,Most of the BUELLS can with some time, She will pop on deceleration. Only a light tuning OR a custom Tune will stop that. But I like the Sounds Kd fabrication has for the XBs. Track Tested and if you gently brake in the Exhaust instead of Reving the Heck out of it Upon the install, about 110 miles, it will last for A good long time, and you still have the jack point under the Stock Can,for the small work like front end work ,brakes etc. Still on a long Trip Unless its a stock Muffler can, you'll need a set of ear plugs.:D

12Redline,

I have a 09 XB12r, and I was running the hawk with a K&N filter for half a season. There was an immediate difference of sound and power once I did the tps reset and had the stock ecm learn the change. I recently purchased the EBR ECM for the Drummer per EBR's recommendation. I no longer have backfire and the bike just pulls all the way through a lot stronger. So in my experience, the bike runs better than stock with the hawk and K&N. The addition of the EBR ecm just makes it run all that much better. Hope that helps.
