I keep getting asked this question, is a Buell considered to be a Harley, or is it just a Buell, I tell everyone its a Buell and they just use the motor. So what do you guys consider it to be ???? And what do the Harley riders consider it ??

Harley considers it to be a harley. But they don't matter anyways.

But to be honest.

It's a Buell, vehicles are designated by VIN and frame, not motor. If you put a 351 Fort motor in a Chevrolet Nova ( I KNOW I KNOW BLASPHEMY!!!!) It is still a Chevrolet Nova.

Another thing Chevrolet is made by GMC but it's still a Chevrolet not a GMC.
Same thing for Mercury being made by Ford.
Oh and Ford owns Jaguar, but I don't see anyone calling a Jaguar a Ford or vice versa...

For all purposes both legal and otherwise, a Buell is a Buell is most definately NOT A HARLEY!!!

Just my .02 cents

Buell is a division of Harley. Owned and operated by Harley. Erik was an engineer for harley after his race career, but he left the company to create more of a sport bike, which harley didn't want to pursue. I think it was after all the recalls, Buell was bought by harley, which wasn't the worst thing in the world being how the buells were using harley motors. I tell people it's a harley motor in a bike designed by a smarter guy than the harley engineers(even though he used to be a harley engineer, but they dont have to know that).

Just to clarify, Chevy is a GM not a GMC. But I see your point. A Chevy is a GM product just as Buell is a HD product. But I still consider it a Buell. Oddly enough when I gave State Farm the VIN for my Lightning it came up in there records as a Harley-Davidson. I tell people it's a Buell built by Buell using a HD engine built solely for use in a Buell and that HD owns 98% of Buell. I'm with you FIDOSOL, it's definately not a Harley because there is nothing with Harley-Davidson on the tank that is in any way like a Buell, in terms of style, performance, and attitude. Viva la Buell!

Well as you are right, GMC and Chevy/Pontiac are made by GM.

His_and_Her_ Buells ...State Farm wouldn't insure me, on my progressive insurance it came up as a Buell...

To Prove my and His_and_Her_Buells point. When you put in the VIN to your Insurance company, what did it come up as?

NOT HARLEY DAVIDSON

WHOO-HOO long live BUELL

Hey if anybody wants to list their Insurance Provider and what it came up as then we could start a compilation for comparison...

Progressive Auto Insurance

Came up as Buell Lighting....not a Harley

Where on our beloved Buells does the name Harley Davidson appear? That's right,it doesn't[mad]It says BUELL:DTell them that when they ask.

the bike is tm'd & marketed under 'buell'...so it's a buell!

the s1, s3, m2 and xb-series just uses a modded harley engine.

just as the 1125r & cr are no 'rotax', but also 'buell'

Actually a blast does say Harley Davidson on it but it's the only one. Never really figured that one out.

Fortunately there is a better distinction between Buell and HD than in the car world. I love Buell and hate Harleys (I don't think I'm the only one). In the car world I love Dodge but would be happy with just about any Chrysler product. Same would hold true for a Chevy lover. You would be hard pressed to find one that hates Pontiac. Or a Ford lover doesn't hate Mercury. The sisterhood of cars is much more closely related than that of our beloved Buells.

just hope they dont spot the 'bar and shield' logo on the jugs :D

Iv only seen the harley name/logo stamped onto the motor. I seen someone on here with a sticker with the harley bar and shield on it said "BUELL" instead on "Harley Davidson" I really liked that.

Hay His and Hers, Im with you never been a big Harley fan, well stock but even then there is alot of cutting and reshaping to make a Harley appealing to me, the only thing i like is the sound, thanks to BUELL i can get that in a bike that looks good.

And just to throw a *** in there to everyone GM, FORD, DODGE, if your talking cars there is only HONDA or ACURA, Nothing but.:D:D::)

Thems fightin' words[mad]

Did you know that HONDA is an acronym for Hop On Nothin' Dumb Ass.:p

I've actually seen some components on my Buell that have the HD shield on it. I still considerate a completely different bike of it's own. Lamborghinis have Audi/VW parts. Aston Martin's have Jaguar and Ford parts and yet they are their own brand.

Hey Trooper, ACURA, A Car Under Repair Again...

Just so ya know, despite brand, if it ain't got a V8, it's not a real car/truck!

I've had the V8s and the American cars/trucks, And my HONDA has always takin me to the parts store so i could keepem runnin.

I knew i would get a reaction out of that one, I'm just a HONDA man, 20 years and counting. But i will say the BUELL has defiantly changed me over ( for street bikes).

buell has nothing to do with harley harley dealers dont have to carry or sell buells and most dealers want nothing to do with them...if a Harley dealer wants to sell buells.... they have to pay a franchise fee to buell.....thats what i was told ... dont mean its true,,,but im running with it

the harley bar and shield is very sacred and is protected bye patients and very high priced lawyers so protected harley cant even use it as they please.harley is a single company.and buell is a single company to different company's.in 1996 harley bought 49% of buell and in 1998 harley bought another 49% of buell.so eric still owns 2 percent.i beleive Mr.Buell did this so he wouldnt have to spend so much time running a growing company and so he could spend more time on R and D.(eric buell is a chassi god)
