head upgrade???

is this a question or an add???

you can't make the engine rev higher by only changing the heads.

question and i was saying that there would be no valve float no matter what. of course the rpm's would then depend on the lower half of the engine. but you would not have to worry about valve float.

If you look at his other post about the rotary engine in the 2010 Buells I think it will shed some light on this post. Which I suspect is BS

boardsnbikes: your close minded quit ripping on my threads for no reason. the valve system above is real watch the video i was wondering if this would work on a buell. if you look at their bike its a harley based engine.

Hey genius, checked out the video, very poor quality, read the info Coates provided, this is not a Harley motor, like you said. The whole bike is a creation of the Coates company, using the v-twin idea. The sides of the heads look different than a Harley head,I would guess that these heads will only work on their motor,it would have to be a working unit, top and bottom.I would think that we would have heard of someone using this head on a Harley or Buell by now, which we have not. No,I do not think this would work on the Harley or Buell. With all the proven aftermarket heads available, why would you want to try something no one has heard of? Not to mention, the Thunderstorm heads are a very good head in stock form, add some dyno tested headwork to them and now you have a head that will smoke anything out there.Just my 2-cents.

i heard of coates like 5-6 years ago, they dont sell to consumers tho. those heads they have seem very promising . i wanted to get a set for my 302 but they wouldent sell them to me.

rhyno why try something no one has ever heard of??? isnt that the what the buell stands for?
as for the coates engine i suspect that the lower end is an S&S and of course the heads look differant they are. to me it looks like they added a sprocket whare the cam lobe was and ran a chain to the heads. my 2cents

The motorcycle engine for the harley is for a large bike, the Buells are based on the Sportster engine, and it is difficult to put anything larger in our frames as it is. The Coates Valve technology has been around in development for over 15 years as stated in the video, it would be interesting, to see other versions. I remember when they announced this idea way back in the Nineties, What have they been doing? It doesn't take 15 years to go through the Patent Process. The V-8 that they show in the video, is vibrating so bad it looks as if the headers would fracture and fail after several miles. If I wanted a Buell that Vibrated More than what I have Now I would Just Buy a Blast, come to think of it, the Coates engine would probably fit in that, Not Sure Though. They keep blaming all the emissions on the Poppet Valve engine, when in fact it is the tuning of the engine, the stoicometric Fuel/Air Ratio of 14.7 to 1, that gives you the best exhaust emissions, any leaner and the NOx go up, any richer the CO's go up, if it has a miss then the HC's go up. It is all a balance, the engine doesn't care what type of valve the mixture came through.

If that where the case, we would all be riding and driving around with 2 stroke engines, they have a much higher volumetric efficiency, ie Power every revolution. The problem with them is the emissions, for most of the 2 stroke designs you have the lubrication component, that gets into the combustion cylinder, which throws the HC's out of Wack.

As far as being able to use any fuel, nearly any engine can do that now also, just takes getting the tuning correct. The energy in Ethanol or Methanol is about 1/3 to 1/2 that of Gasoline, so its fuel /air ratio would need to be adjusted to compensate for the difference.

My Two Cents
