WOW! No one has done this?! How about a different coversion? Well here is how mine went:
- HeliBar is well made but kinda simple. Pazzo levers are very slick but friggin' pricey.
-Just a couple reference pictures of the stock set-up. The stock triple clamp is a very nice finish compared to the somewhat crude 'racer' look of the HeliBar
-Next we secure the front end
-Remove the seat and airbox
-Disconnect the cluth switch on the left side of the front end
-Loosen all the pinch bolts on the triple clamp and the neck bearing nut. Undo the bolts holding the 'clip-ons' into the tree.
-Helper pushes the front wheel into the frame of the bike to relieve pressure on the tree and lifting up it comes off easy. Make a note of those bolts holding the ignition module to the bottom of the tree! Those SOB's are tamper proof! Who the hell keeps Torx tamper proof wrenches! @#^%#$!)(*^!!!!!
-Quick trip to local parts store.....they had a whole set for $20!! (Call if you need them cause I'll never use them again!...LOL)
-OK...same deal... mount the ignition module with the freakin tamper proof Torx nuts ($&$%^%^!!)push the wheel into the bike and slide the new tree onto the fork uppers
-Put the 'clip ons' into the new tree (not shown here are trick billet pieces that dress where the bolts are showing... we were too stupid to figure it out til a bit later). Time to add the levers before we finish the install.
-To get the clutch lever installed the adjustment must be loosened for slack. Pull the rubber cover up, loosen the lock nut all the way, count the threads as you will need to set it back the way you found it, and loosen the cable until it pulls out of the old lever and can be installed in the new set. The brake is very much easier. Undo the pivot bolt, remove and bolt the new one in place.
- Also on this job I wanted to tighten the neck bearings. At this point we undid the bolts holding the lower tree to the fork per Buell instructions
-Time to tighten things up....first we torqed the neck bolt to 40lbs then reinstalled and tightened the lower tree/fork bolts. Reset the clutch adjustment and tighten all the bolts and pinch bolts on the new tree.
-Done!
What do you think?
