Hello everybody

I've been reading the forums for a few months now, and just decided to actually start posting. So wanted to say Hi.
I bought my '08 XB12S a month ago, and love it. It's already my 2nd favorite bike, and might just become number one, given some more time. I've owned 7 jap bikes before this, figured I'd try something else. So I put this brief list together of likes (mostly) and dislikes(few) that I've noticed so far.
-Likes-
Color and styling (have the translucent red) and i get comments daily about how great it looks
Size-I'm surprised its so small for a 1200. but feels great
Handling-hands down the best cornering bike I've ridden so far (did experiment w/ the suspension settings to figure that out)
Exhaust-it's great not having to worry about passenger legs getting burned, or the back seat getting hot

dislikes-
the Heat-I've never had a bike give off so much heat. (already ordered the heat barrier, just waiting for it to arrive) my question is, since most people complain about this, why hasn't Buell done something themselves since this version has been out several years now?

oil drain-who's bright idea was it to put the drain plug right above the muffler so it drips on top of it LOL

that's about it-and one other question. I've now got 1500 miles on it, did the first service myself with no problems... but why do they say it gets 60+mpg highway, when I'm only getting 45ish even when i ride mostly all highway miles back and forth to work.

but still, it's fun to ride for sure.

Your mileage will get better after you get some more miles on it. I drive a lot of highway miles also, my '06 XB12S has 6,000+ miles on it, and I get 52mpg......if I keep my wrist in check. Sometimes a little less when I get the "Twisties" itch, but always around 50mpg. Man I love that TORQUE!

ya it aint even broken in yet give it time stock I was getting 170mpt=miles per tank to the fuel light after the micron and ecm tune and just today installing the open air box and catch can I have yet to see how much it's dropped some I'm sure

There is supposed to be a re flash for the '08 ECMs that are causing the bad mileage. I had bad nileage on my 08 XB12R till about 3k miles I never took it in for the reflash so...

Hello all,

I, too, am new to the forum and also own a 08 XB12S that is getting significantly lower gas milage than advertised (About the only disparaging thing I can say about it. Just switched from a Ducati Monster, and WOW. One test drive and I was sold... so was the bike)

What is the re flash Thaloc mentioned, and is it possible to fix? Will it get better as the bike breaks in?

I have an '08 XB12R and got really bad mileage till about 3k miles. Dealers are supposed to have a re-flash for your ecm if your having the mileage issue, I never took mine in, but prolly should. It also should be covered under warrenty.

oh almost forgot
more things I like:
-Pirelli tires-I've been swearing by them for years, if it came with anything else, would've spent the money to change them right away regardless.
and
-Belt drive

I just put the Special OPS heat barrier in yesterday and it sure did make an immediate difference!
