the advertisement for the bluetooth is on this thread at the bottom of the page every time I open it..lmao. Perfect placement for motorcycle superstore!!!

By the way...just to stir things up a bit :)
O'Neal is a highly regarded offroad ride gear supplier. They make quality helmets and mx boots etc for a cheaper price. Its not Jimbobs backyard brainbucket and I would trust my melon in it just as much as I trust it in my $500 Arai. Adding an appendage to the outside of the helmet scares the bejesus out of me. As well as wearing backpacks on the highway or tying them so-so secure on your backseat...cheap plastic "quick release" helmet straps...exposed primary belt drives..untied shoes . wearing shorts while riding etc etc. Im not paranoid...I learn from other peoples misfortune

Besides ...lets admit here guys. If your listening to music in BOTH ears cranked up while riding...safety probably isnt your first concern anyway.
Just my .02 :)

I also use the marshmallows and think they are the est bang for the buck. The bose do sound pretty good ut i dont like the durabilty factor.... I went through two pair and on both of them the wire got pulled or something from the buds. plus the price is a bit steep.

Your argument of having an "appendage" on a helmet isn't valid. Obviously you've never seen this element helmet in person. The knob and buttons stick out pretty far. Not as much as a Cardo, I'll give you that. But hey, my Cardo has full duplex communication up to 1/2 mile away.

I've tried the Element, I didn't like it. But I will admit, it's A2DP support is cool, but no bike to bike communication? Come on.

If you like the helmet, then buy it! I just offered a cheaper alternative with more options that can be used on your current helmet.

I'm done here

I own the bluetooth helmet and it rocks in my opinion. I was able to do 90 mph and talk on the phone at the same time and able to have a conversation. It was clear on both ends. Yes 90 mph is kinda crazy but it was a short distance to test it's capabilities.

The music sound quality is a 4.5 outta 5 as well. My media player is from a samsung blackjack phone. It will pause the music and unpause after the call. It also has a wind blocker attached that fits snug up to your neck and covers your chin. It still has wind noise but I can crank the volume to where it's too loud at any speed.

You can even do a call back using the controls from the last number received. I couldnt be happier with it.

Best,
Mike

try www.skullcandy.com the noise reduction series. I rock the Full Metal Jackets and they are comfy! Sound even better than they feel.

I've had a set of the Etymotic ER6i's since 02 and they still sound great, i'm still amazed at how low I have the volume set when riding. And the sound quality is great, they can be found for as low as $85 if you search the net and wait for a deal.(Just bought a set for my girl)
If you try them, and its not perfect call them for a sample kit of all their different size tips. They sent them to me for free.

can you use that scala q2 with a blue tooth phone as the media player? So I could play streaming music from my phone with say the MP3 feature OR Pandora or some net based radio, but maintain the phone priority?

Sprinter, no, the Q2 does not support A2DP(stereo bluetooth) to play music. The phone will work, but the music portion will have to be plugged into the aux audio port on the Q2 base. The new Cardo G4 will support A2DP, and it will be out in december.

when I'm cruising around town I wear a brain bucket and i pair it with wireless Motorola headphones and stream pandora from my blackberry... works well...easy on easy off..

I've never had good luck with earphones in my helmet...until I tried the set that came with my BlackBerry. Awesome! It now sounds like the music is around me and not in my ear. Very comfortable to wear and doesn't "feel" like I'm wearing earphones. The built in mic filters most of the road noise when that "important" call comes through too.

Ride safe

I just picked up some skullcandy FMJ buds and they seem to fit ok but I wont know until spring. the problem I run across with the skullcandy line is the port is located inboard and is easly obsured causing loss of sound, especially when pushed far into your ear.

I also picked up a pair of ultimate ears Merro fi 220's these are very nice and tuck just below flush on my ears. I am sure they will pose no problems come spring.

I have bought 3 sets of Full Metal Jacket earbuds. They come in 11mm and 9mm drivers. Always bought the 11's. Im using them now with the rubber tip. They are OK in the helmet. after a long ride they can hurt because they protrude quite a bit. Dont use the comply foam tips with them, they squish down and drive into your ear the little hard plastic piece in the center. Its like jamming a straw in your ear. The Bose earbuds lay flater against your head so i dont think they would hurt as much after a long ride. I have a Shark RSI helmet and that helmet really does not have ear opening provisions so its harder to fit.

I have one of these, from V-Can. It works great. Only a few complaints:

1. It's only in one ear. I guess this is a blessing, since the other ear is free to hear road noises without interference.
2. The speaker doesn't get that loud and distorts at the high end. This is annoying on the highway since you HAVE to turn it up all the way to hear it.
3. Phone calls are pointless unless your going slower than 10 miles an hour.
4. A little pricey for an otherwise no frills helmet with an underachieving built in headset.

So, that's it. I LOVE the fact that I can just pair it with my iPhone and have nice soundtrack for my ride. Headphones would work better, but I'd lose the ability to manage the volume. And if I had to use the phone, I wouldn't have to take off my helmet.

All in all, it's a great idea. It's just not executed very well.

Digging up an old thread. Just got a pair of Skullcandy DUB series. AMAZING bass and clarity! Very comfortable too![up]
