Good question. Can't be an HJC FS10. good helmet, but the noise isn't great. Tried a Shoe RF1000 before buying the HJC, and it was much better, but I had buyers remorse after paying close to $400 on it.

To get unbiased opinions, you really need feedback from those who've worn many different brands - which some may post up. For additional info, here's a great review site where they give real world testing on several dozens of different brands.

Edit: From the few experiences I've had, Icon Domain 2 & HJC are loud. I try to always ride with ear plugs also.

Yet to wear the Bell Star, big hopes on it!

Out of the rest. The Scorpion EXO 700 was the quietest[up]

Icon and HJC like Steven mentioned are loud, Hmmm must have similar tastes as Steven;) My Osbe is Crazy loud almost like a half helmet.

This helmet is cheap. I could give you a good deal on it. Original Buell gear ;) I have heard Shoei is the best.

update...The only thing about shoei is the inserts are non-removable for washing? did u get a new helmet yet? Mine is still available. Real cheap 4 u. Otherwise its getting donated to the Buell raffel. ;)

well i cant compare to other helmets , but i do know my Scorpion EXO 1000 helmet is pretty quite not to much wind noise for me, just mostly the beautifull music of the buell exhaust notes , very comfortable with the aero fit (inflatable cheek pads) makes it feel like it is made just for me custom fit, not to heavy, keeps my head cool with vents open and warm when vents are closed, gotta love the sunvisor on bright sunny days or riding into the sun. wow I sound like some scorpion rep. wish i was then maybe i could get some cool free gear!!!
but seriuosly i like it.
Scorpion EXO 1000

I have had a few helmets over the years. Mostly lower end name brands. Last year I invested in a exo-1000. Its a nice helmet but a little on the heavy side. It was pretty quiet. My only complaint with scorpion is the lack of cheek pads. I had to cut mine down for a comfy fit. I have not tried a helmet that I didn't have to modify(until below). I wear a large 99% of the time but I have a very wide jaw.

I went down on the track last year and put a good scuff on the back. So I was in the market for a new lid. I know a few people that swear by shoei. After lots of research I decided on the shoei quest. Its basically a street version of the rf-1100. And about $150 cheaper. It is by far the quietest, and most comfortable helmet I have worn. I also am a believer in shoei as the fit and finish are top of the line. And with 7 different size cheek pads to choose from, my odd shaped head fits without modification. At $340 its mid ranged in price.
As stated above webbikeworld.com is a great resource for hemets. They offer very in depth reviews.

Here's a pic of my quest

I have the Shoei RF1000 and love it. When I need a new helmet I will buy another Shoei.

I just found out that helmets have a shelf life and should be destroyed after 3-4 years. At least that is what my new HTC helmet say's on the manual. Also said that helmets form to your head eventually and should not be transferred other riders.

Never new that. All these years. LOL!

How long does a Shoei last for? I like the wind technology of SHoie. Its creates a vacuum and draws air out from what I here like no other helmet. I have also spoke with Shoie reps and they had a helmet cut in half to show the protection of the inner foam like material. Very good engineering and designed to cause less concussions. The day Shoie make's a helmet with a removable liner I am sold.

I've always been in arais... Not cheap but they seem to be the only thing that fits my head comfortably. I wear a 2XL. I figure that my head is worth the extra $$!

The Shoei helmet fits people with slim heads. The Arai fits people with round heads. That has been my experience.

Well, due respect, that's contrary to the conventional wisdom and my experience. You're correct in that folks used to say you either had a "Shoei head" or an "Arai head," with the shapes being the other way around. I've got a very round head. I could wear the Arai Quantum and old RX7-RR4, but not the newer Corsair. With the exception of a couple models that mashed the crap out of my ears, I've always been able to wear a Shoei. Right now I have an RF1000 and a Multitec. Both of those run about 1/2-3/4 size large, BTW.

If you go to the Arai site, they describe the three shapes they make as long, intermediate and round oval. My round head takes the round oval. The traditional Shoei shape is this round oval, perhaps somewhat less round than the Quantum, but certainly more round than the Arai Profile.

Shoei's three current full face helmets are the X-Twelve, RF-1100 (there are plenty of RF-1000s out there at great prices, since that model has been discontinued), and the Qwest.

A simple explanation is that the X model has largely been marketed as the full-on race helmet, typically tighter fitting and less plush perhaps than the RFs, and more expensive.

The RF is the big seller, offering the most in terms of features and comfort, at the middle price point.

They used to have a third level, which included the TZ-R, Z-Two, and TZ-1. Beats me when those went out. If you look into those, make sure you check manufacture date before you buy.

The Qwest is their new line, which seems to be at a slightly lower price point than the RF-1100, and aimed at touring or sport-touring riders, with the selling point of being quiet. I have no experience with that one-haven't even laid hands on one.

Back to the original question of the thread, I find the RF-1000 to be pretty quiet, as is the Multitec. Both are incrementally quieter than the Arai I retired in 2009.

Long winded, but HTH.

The RF-1000 was going to be my first helmet, but finding a small size of a discontinued helmet is a little difficult. I've got a Bell Vortex now - it's my first helmet so I can't comment on it's quietness in comparison - but I would prefer something a little quieter.

With headphones in, playing some tunes (not loud) it's much better - much like ear plugs.

I ride with a Shoei RF1000 i absolutely love it. I've also ft an HJC had that as my first and will never go back to them.

Jobe, I'm a NHRA tech inspector. Helmets are good for 10 years from the sticker inside. If it says M2005 its good till 2015, as an example, for us.

My Arai is not bad , but even with the best rider that want the quietest, wear ear plugs.
