2003 xb9s OEM race kit 22k
Bike was backfiring and stalling out through heavy acceleration. No service light. Changed plugs, cleaned air filter and tested fuel pump and new filters.
I found a loose ground and seemed to work, BUT, went for a 10k ride and bike stalled out and would not start. The service light flashes and the fuel pump primes with the light? Fan stays on forever, even when the bike as been sitting for 2 days. Battery terminals are good and battery fully charged. Error codes are 11, 15, 16 and 44. I sprayed off the IAT sensor with electrical cleaner and the fan no longer stays on. Bike will not start! I'm a newbie Help!!!

code 11: throttle position sensor
code 15: intake air temperature sensor
code 16: battery voltage
code 44: bank angle sensor

bank angle sensor maybe loose, check hardware...IAt is probably ready for a new one, how old is the battery? roughly 4 yrs life span give or take, you may need to do the TPS reset for code 11

download the manual from the link below the Buellxb header or from buellmods.com...let me know if you need for info, I have an '03 9s as well

Thanks I appreciate any info I can get!
Battery is 2 year well maintained and reads 12.5 volts
I have a buddy that has the 05 xb9 and I swapped out the IAT sensor and bank angle sensor.... No luck .. Still the same
Pulled the plugs and there is no spark! Help

coil... check the resistance of the primary and secondary windings with an ohmmeter, set the scale to RX1, primary coil windings are where the connector goes, normal reading will be 0.5-0.7 ohms, for the secondary, set the scale to RX1K, and place meter probes where the plug wires go, the normal reading should be 5.5-7.5k ohms...remove the coil from the bike to do both checks...replace the coil if a low resistance is read due to a short in the winding and or high resistance may indicate some corrosion/oxidation on the terminals, clean and check the reading again, still high, replacement needed. if infinite ohms resistance is read, there's an open in the circuit, replacement needed.

in the manual, see page 4-95, section 4.31...info is all there if I didn't make it clear on what and how to check it, good luck

If that fails we might have a crank sensor issue possibly... Something somewhere is not working related to ignition...

So here's what happened today...
The bike turns over but doesn't spark. And the fuel pump pulses on only when the check engine light flashes on. The fan turns on all the time until the battery dies. I put the volt meter to the bat and get about 11volts.  I put the smart charger for a 2 days and it never completely charges?
1. I cleaned the IAT sensor with electric cleaner and the Fan stopped (finally something worked)
2. I swapped the bank angle sensor, the coil, and my battery with A friends buell and .... Nothing!!!
Finally, I swap the voltage regulator with a friends and boom starts up!!!  Problem solved?!! Nope!! I put mine back on and.... Boom!!! Starts too!!! I ride it around my house and crank the >#*=€ out of it and runs perfect!!! 12volts off the battery and 14.5ish bike running?!
So the question is.....
Cld it be the connectors, which are faulty or an intermittent voltage regulator?

Check the condition of the connector to the voltage regulator .. there was an updated connector that was produced to replace the older ones ... the older ones were prone to corrosion which led to excess resistance at the connector which caused them to melt themselves and speed up the wear/tear on the voltage regulator ...

sounds like it might have had some corrosion on a couple of the terminals (including the voltage regulator connector) and you simply broke it loose when you started swapping parts ... I use a lot of dielectric grease on every one of my connectors to prevent this exact thing from happening on all my bikes ... as they are all getting up there in the years ...

I have swapped the 77 connector 2 years ago, but took her for a 2 hr ride today and she runs like a beauty! Going to try your dielectric grease on all my connectors and cross my fingers!! Thanks everyone!!
