I am helping a friend get his 06 XB12R back running. Last night he brought it to my house and I started to take it apart. I noticed his battery was upside down and hooked up backward. We put my battery in his bike and hooked it up and it started right up. So I took my battery back out and I took his battery to test it at advance auto and it was cooked. No amps and couldn't hold a charge. So I bought a new sealed battery. Well, I get home and hook it up and still nothing lighting up on the gauges, no primer, nothing. But his led accent lights will flip on bright. Any idea what might be wrong or where to start looking? Thanks for any advice guys.

I'm not a "real mechanic" but that doesn't sound good at all. I'm currently working on a charging issue with my bike (that will be another post though). From what I've learned from my bike and from years of working on cars, I'd say at the very least the voltage regulator is history. I'm sure other members know more about this than me, but your friend needs to get a factory manual and start doing some tests. Good luck and keep us posted!

K. Checked the 77 plug. God. Checked fuses and found key switch fuse blown. Replaced with new fuse. Turned key on. Blew again with no lights or sounds. Any ideas.

There is short some where.
Didn't you say it RAn with your battery?
Maybe the battery you have has the poles switched.
1125 and xb same size battery but - and+ are reversed

It ran with my battery last night. But would not run with mine again today. Battery in it now is new. Would a voltage regulator keep it from having lights or fuel pump from priming? To check for a short i will have to check every wire. Huh?

So, we figured it out. With the help of my friend reading the wiring diagram we ran backwards from the battery, testing every connection with the volt meter to verify volts and resistance. Ended up being at the key switch relay. It is fried. Therefore when we switched the key on it was frying the key switch fuse, equalling no power for headlights, gauges, or tail, turn sigs. Thanks for the help guys.
