Help dealer dropped my baby after new tires!

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

It's a dealer. Most reputable shops have garageman's insurance policies. Just ask in writing for their insurance information along with an estimate of damage for new parts so a claim can be filed. If they will not provide it, contact your insurance company to get the information. Accidents happen, that's why we all pay for insurance.

ok everyone is on the same page but one thing...

HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GETTING TIRES FOR $600-$750!??!

They are literally charging you the same to mount and balance as the cost of the fucking tires, HD even more. How dumb are you? $60 to mount and balance is the most you should ever pay. I got my brand new front tire on (bought there) at a HD dealer and i was less then 160-180 out the door. I hate dealers but why would you agree to pay the cost of the tires for labor?

I know why you agreed to the above - you took their kind-of word for it that they were going to work with you on the new tires. This is all wrong. They are doing you wrong. They need to make it all right. Lots of good advice given to you here. I wish you the best, and that righteousness shall prevail. Do let them know that if they do not make it completely right that it is not just going to go away, that you will hire an attorney, and then do meet with an attorney. Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people on here with all kinds of good help and advice. Once you get all this straightened out come back to the forum often and ENJOY.

Terrible! I agree with all those who have said to argue this, escalating it to legal & consumer advocacy measures if necessary.

I respect your concern that you feel your age is a factor in how you've been treated, but please resist the temptation to bring your parents into this. You're an adult man; don't live up to the Generation Y stereotype.

Good luck!

That's a good point - you can do this - handle it, not necessarily on your own, but without your parents becoming directly involved.

uh,,,, I agree with the no Mommy and daddy angle and those points. However,,,,,,,I also feel you need to have someone there who is mentally and physically able to do combat with these people.
Most dealers and shop people take classes in psychology and sales strategys, as well as conflict mgmt and dealing with personalitys.
At least, the smart ones do,....Its part of the business model to walk up to a customer and gain their trust and talk them into a sale even when you say no no no..... Same thing with conflict. With the right training you are 3 steps in front of the other person, you can size up their strengths and weaknesses and employ them, If you dont have those skill sets, and some one is looking to come out ahead of you,,,, they have the advantage.
Cops do this too,. at least good ones do.
I used to have an ex girlfriend,, Her Dad was a master at this type of psychology,,, He was retired, and for fun, bought and sold vehicles at least 1 a month, would trade one in, and buy another, ALWAYS ALWAYS came out ahead,. He did it for fun, didnt care about the money. He loved the negotiating, would take all day to close a deal. he loved it. The poor sales people and managers, plus the "Closers" poor bastards,,, I almost felt sorry for them, It was slow torture. the guy was so far ahead of them it wasnt funny and he would lead them on, let them think they were getting somewhere,, then "WHAP" back to square one... I sat thru 2 of those sessions, I was in awe, but annoyed as well, (huge amount of time) But even after we broke up,, I recomended him to others, it would only cost you dinner or lunch, IF YOU WANTED A VEHICLE at a dealership, you wanted him with you. He could crush your spirit and self esteem in a second if he wanted, Or string them along all day.

So, more directly,,, this fellow isnt ready to swim with the sharks, he needs a skilled wingman in there. whether its his Dad or someone else,,,, dont walk in there on your own.

I disagree with allowing your parents in on this. Parents are their for guidance, not to fight battles. When i bought my 1st house you better believe i was on the phone with my old man all the time getting advice from him. He has done it before, i havent. Theres nothing wrong with getting a second opinion from your parents, after all isnt that what your doing on this forum?

I think he was referring to having the parents get involved with the dealership, not the conflict.

I merely was saying if it came down to A. Getting your parents involved and looking weak or B. Not getting them involved and loosing a ton of money i would take option A. In any case he needs someone to take this to another level. Call who ever you have to to get this fixed because you got raped by a 600lb gorilla without any lube.

Geez man thats something that would happen to me. Boston huh? sounds familiar................O wait Im from Boston. And i think i know where you got that Buell seeings as i look every year for Buells online. Does this dealer rhyme with Boston Power Sports in Arlington MA. We gotta ride some time when your bike is not in its side. But bike is giving me problems know so it will have to wait.

^^ Had to register to say this sounds pretty familiar... if we're talking about the same shop, I was in there the other week and one of the sales guys had a very "Oh shit" reaction when I said I had an XB. He asked if I had the red one and oddly this seems to match up.

Can't say I had a bad experience there, though. I just bought my 07 XB12s in April, had new tires I brought installed f/r for about 150 out the door, and inspected a couple days later at the same place. No issues. I'm relatively new to bikes, but I knew there was a reason I've been doing all my own work in the automotive world [sad]

Hope everything works out!

Here's more "free" advice.
Get your "position" down to no more than 2 sentences and DO NOT engage in any other discussions. Do not answer any questions or any attempts to get you into a jive-talkin' discussion. You're obviously dealing with people that do not give a crap about "making things right". IF you can avoid getting sucked into any conversations, they just might figure out that you're serious enough to not be worth screwing over.

You discussion should be something like:
"You need to return my bike to me in the same condition I dropped it off in. When will you have it ready?" Get everything in writing from then on out. A complete estimate with parts list (new parts if you care) AND that it will be done at no charge, with a delivery date.
If they refuse to "return your bike in the same condition you delivered it in", then simply restate your position. If this doesn't work, say "This is unacceptable to me." and leave. No jive talkin', no bullshittin', no attempts to "talk it out", no desperate attempts to "get them to understand".
If they refuse, leave, document in a note book EVERYTHING you can remember, with times, dates, names, who said what, everything. Document your monetary impact in very way you can - be honest - no lying - including mileage (IRS mileage is 56.5 cents/mile - it adds up fast). Then file a claim in small claims court that is closest to the bike shop.
Then when you get to court, keep the yack-yack to zero, and only go over "the facts".

Good luck and sorry you've gotten burned by some bad business people.
For what it's worth I don't go to our local Harley dealer.

^ that is GREAT advice.

You have what you need. Go get it done. You have all of us on your side.

All these members have some great advice. Welcome to the forum and pay attention to everything here. Ive learned a lot from these people myself. As for as this topic, I like Cowboys advice about not getting sucked into a conversation. That is a very important point. I myself work in the automotive field as a technician. Yes the service advisors or the ones that get me most of my work, so I am grateful to them. But most of the time I get myself my own work, anf I can't stand anyone trying to rip customers off to fatten or protect their own pockets. If the dealership is as big as you say, you are not hurting anyone by making them pay for their mistake, the can afford it, and chances are, nobody will get fired for this little accident. They are simply trying to minimize their lost. They are going about it the wrong way though because now they are losing you as a customer. Every customer makes a huge difference so don't believe for a second that you can't make an impact on them

Don't think anyone has mentioned this yet...but the dealerships carry insurance policies which will pay for any damages caused by them.

"Boston" we should definitely meet up when I get the bike back and go for a ride! PM me sometime. I would say to quote one of my favorite shows on tv that your powers of deduction and reasoning are vary good! It rhyme quite well!

"doctor dreadful" thats funny because mine happens to be red so I would say you might have got one of the guys that was there that day! Im happy you had a good experience there. I got my first bike there last year and went back because they where giving me 90% on my trade in and I was vary happy with how the buell purchasing process went. there are some great guys working there and vary friendly but this was just one big cluster bomb.

Anyway update. The dealer is still waiting for the foot pegs to come in. They think it will be today and then hopefully be able to get it on a truck and out to me by tomorrow (one full week sense I went to get the tires on). Funny they cant give me an ETA on the part coming in until I told them I work in logistics and get how this works, so then I was told it would be here today after they looked at the tracking number.. lol. Anyway thank you for the input regarding bringing my father into this. I completely understand why some of you would say I'm a 21 year old and an adult with hair on my chest and all that fun stuff! your right my friends, but in this case I felt they where trying to bend me over from the start and it couldn't hurt to have someone more....seasoned on my side when dealing with both managers trying to tell me whats what. Also my father was a mechanic in the air force and as I said before I know my way around bikes but well...he is the master I am but the apprentice.( happy late May the 4th everyone). I ended up bringing him there to take a look at the bike and give the ok to it just being cosmetic damage and and I think it helped having him there.... anyway I'm sure there will be one or two more updates to come!

oh and incase you where wondering the Tires are michelin pilot road 3, and I was told $180 for the front and then $261 for the back. 40 and 45 for mounting, balancing. so yeah I'm no math major but using my trusty Iphone calculator that comes to $526....as you all know if you have been keeping up when I got there that became $598.. lol maybe I should have got them offline and gone down the road once they came in but I had no trust in the tires on the bike at the time and just wanted it done..I had plans to head to Quabbin Reservoir over the weekend on a 250 mile run... thats what get for being impatient [mad]

That place is pretty cool. I used to live in the sturbridge area and would head out there sometimes.
