When installing new oem head bearings do the task portion of the bearing stay out our go in the neck?

Stupid phone won't let me edit. Does the tall portion of the bearing go inside the neck or outside

bolty: what dad said. look at the bearing race. the part that the bearing fits into will be looking at you when installed. that is the tapered part.

OK now just to be sure I get what you are saying, the edge that's up goes in the neck and the flat edge goes against the triple tree. If that is the case the Harley mechanic who installed the last set was an idiot.

we just did the ones in my old XB9. if i recall correctly the longer part faced in. to be sure download the manual. i'm almost 100% sure flat side goes up. i replaced them with all balls.

The integer race of the bearing that has the protruding lip faces out on the top and the bottom when you install them. The "flat" face of the bearing is installed towards the inside of the frame. From the way it sounds they were installed correctly the last time. I have the special tools to install these and there is a recess for the raised inner race to face out.
