Help! Looking to Buy! BUT...

...am I too old? I'm 52 and new here. My name is Mike.
I have rode my whole life. All different makes and models. My son has been riding for a few years now would like me to ride again with him. I've been out for almost 10 years. My last bike was a 1995 FLH. I have always had a thing for the Buells. I'm looking at a 2005 XB9S at a good price. Is this 52 year old guy going to look "out of place" on this bike?
I don't want a cruiser and I don't want to be laying on the gas tank.

If you don't want to lay on the tank, look into a lightning. It has a nice upright position.

I know there are some riders on here that are older than you as well, so I don't think you'll be out of place.

I've been riding cruisers all my life,I'm 59,and I too had this Buell itch for the last few years.I bought a used xb12r a couple years ago then thought the Lightning might be a more comfortable riding position so I got an o9xb12scg and I LOVE IT!!

I was off two wheels for 25 years and got back on a year and a half ago. I'm now 56 years young and my Buell is an 09 lightning xb12Ss. I started with a Kaw 750 Vulcan cruiser. I've sold it but still have my Buell another Kawasaki and a Yamaha scooter. I'm 6ft,165lbs and the Lightning is very comfortable for me. Yes Bluexb12, Oh to be 52 again! Life begins at 50.

I think you're thinking about the R, I have an S and am only 5'6" and I don't lay on the tank. Very comfortable ride. I'd suggest looking into an after market seat. Mine came with a Corbin so the long rides are great. As for age, I know a 62 year old riding a GXSR 1000.

Here is the actual bike I'm going to look at.
Anything you may see of concern? That's not stock exhaust, right? Is the coloration of the pipes the way they should look? Bike has less than 3K miles.

no and yes- that looks like the race exhaust offered from buell, all the pipes do that ,you can polish them or ceramic coat them if it bothers you. Its a city x!also has had fender eliminator done, should have the race ecm also and a buell race filter

Ya the pipe coloration is normal. The pipe is a buell race pipe. Not stock. A lot of guys pay good money for them if it turns out it is too loud for you. On the dicoloration of the pipes, some WD40 and scotch brite pad do wonders. It does only last a little while and will look like that again, but it cleans up nicely. Welcome to the forum.

Just kidding, I do think it is awsome that the desire is still there and the respect for the bike the older you get. I say go for it. You will not only enjoy riding, but you will enjoy the time spent with your son. Some people arent that fortunate to still get to spend father/ son time together.

the way I look at it, I'm only 23 but one of the biggest things I love about my lighting is that i can cruise all day in a comfortable position on a bike that is capable of destroying the curves when I wanna have fun.

I know that I would be frustrated riding around on a cruiser knowing that I could be more comfortable on a buell that can do everything

just my 2 little pennies.

there is several men & one or two women here on buellxb.com in their 50's and I believe some a bit older in years but younger at heart when they ride their Buells. why do people think 50 is so old anyways, thats when life is barely 50% of your lifespan. my thinking is like what my dad always tells me your only as old or young as you think or feel you are,& want to be, & don't let age keep you from enjoying life. and slowing down ,that's what kills you is retiring from everything in life, he's 91 and seen all his friend die when they just stop doing everything they enjoy and just basicly do nothing but sit around all day long. he is always constantly busy with something.

Buell is a all ages bikes it spans the gap of all ages, backgrounds, & cultures.

Very well said. I completely agree. I was just letting alittle smart ass out of my mounth thats all. I too think it is awsome and dont really give a damn what other people think. I just flat out enjoy my Buell.

shining: i'm 57 and have exactly the same bike, a 2007 cityX. buells are wonderful motorcycles, parts plentiful, they seem to bomb-proof, the sound is wonderful, the city X is very comfortable, and any and all parts or questions or maintenance tips you may need are right here on this great forum. buy it!
