I have a 2005 Buell XB12 lightning and I beleive my clutch is slipping alittle and dragging so I want to replace the primary fluid and adjust my clutch. I downloaded the service manual and I have a couple questions before I get started. I dont understand the part where it says turn the adjusting screw counter clockwise until it "slightly bottoms." What exactly does slightly bottoms mean? I also dont get the part with adjusting the ferrule at the clutch lever. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

once you dig in, you'll get it. 'slightly bottoms' means right when it gets tight. you dont use a lot of pressure to turn the screw so once it cant move anymore, that is bottomed.

you will next use the adjuster on the cable near the front isolator to take out the slack until there is a small bit of play at the lever.

just go slow, follow the manual to a T. its real easy once youve been through it.

Yea I figured that it will be but I just want to make sure I know as much as possible so I dont run into any problems. wouldn't turning the screw counter clock-wise remove the screw though, not make it tight? The only part I dont get, is when it talks about adjusting the ferrule at the clutch lever? Thanks typeone

I am pretty confident in doing this now after re-reading some things I just have one last and final question. Does the bike really need to be on a stand? can i just make sure the bike is in an upright position???
