help!!!! no cooling fan!

hey guys I'm new to the buell scene and love my bike a XB9R but the last cople rides my fan stopped working it used to come on after a ride when I shut the engine off and sometimes riding when it got hot out but I haven't had anything like that lately I pulled the bike half apart to see if a wire or such was off, checked fuse and it is good . I also have a race ecm and have seen on a forum where this could be at fault can anyone suggest a way of diagnosing this problem? thanks a million ...rambungtious

connect a battery to the fan and see if it works, mine broke thats how i found out

so I took fan out of bike and it works fine with 12 cvolt power I also put it back in and grounded rear temp sensor with key on in run mode and fan works as well so it looks as thogh the temp sensor in the head is failed any thoughts out there on this and if the temp sensor is easy enough to switch out thsnks rambungtious

It may just be as simple as your bike hasn't gotten hot enough lately to need the fan.

I ride many of time and my fan doesn't turn always, I say give it some time. Running without a fan won't kill the engine it is just an aid in cooling.

thanks for the welcome to the site. I don't get on computer to often, but its nice to see there other crazed buellnatics out there! still haven't figured out the problem with fan yet, but still trying other things. thanks again guys

so for all the buell nuts out there! I have taken my bike to the local harley dealer to lose all my hard earned cash they say ecm is at the end of the line if everything else with the cooling system is working so they are taking me for 600 $ plus instalation and resetting the tps on top of that! thank god for the computer age! my butt is feeling a little sore......

WOW the fan doesn't run all the time was it getting hot enought to cut power and flash the check engine light?
hell the race ECM only 300ish.
you might as well get an upgrade for you hard earned $$$

sorry about my delay on the update. my bike came with the race ecm in it already problem was that the fan used to come on every time I shut off the engine I figured this was how it was programmed then a few weeks ago the fan quit coming on after ignition was off thanks to a couple of tips I was able to test fan and sensor and they were fine and kind of figured it was the ecm that was at fault I took it to our local dealer to run the big test on it and they told me about the good news and later called me back and told me the race ecm was only a couple hundred bucks then called me back again and said they cannot get one? so I grabbed one today off of ebay hopefully they can get it back together before summer is gone! would anybody know if I have to have tps reset after I upgrade my exhaust as well as the ecm? thanks for your help guys!

tps reset should be done witht he computer change exhauste not so important.
look at getting a spycable motomadness sold me one with the ecmspy program on cd for about 60 bucks.
you can scan and test rest you tps and afv with easy.
if you technical you can even remap the fuel.
My fan with stock re programed fuel map comes on nearly everytime i shut it off to cool the rear head
