Hi. I feel like such a NOOB! I downloaded ecmspy and got a cable, drivers installed everything working like I think it should. Tried to turn off the active exhaust and could not get it to take. Finally figured it out, now bike runs aweful off idle.. bakfires, won't idle properly, surges. I did the TPS reset...on gauges screen, linked up to the bike, set to zero, went to diagnostic screen (did not see a functions tab) and selected TPS Reset, let it do its thing, back to the gauges, made sure I was linked to bike and set to 4.6%. Same exact problem. I did it twice and rode the bike home hoping it needed to relearn. Any help would be appreciated.

You didn't reset the AFV did you? That could be bad and be the cause of your problems. Did you back up the EEPROM? You should reload it and start over.

I did not do anything at first but try to turn off the active exhaust. I had to fetch the map to do that, I did not do anything to the EPROM, but it asked me if I wanted to burn EEPROM changes when I exited the last time and I clicked no...I did not think I needed to back up anything because I was not changing the map. Am I totally wrong here? Can I just reload someone else's stock map if that is the problem? I really don't think I changed anything other than the exhaust control and the two exhaust buttons on the trouble codes section of diagnostics.

You said you did a tps reset, the afv reset is right under it. It could be clicked on accident. I made sure the first time I plugged in ECMspy that I saved my EEPROM. What year and motor do you have? Did you follow instructions in the Buell tuning guide?

You know Dave, anything is possible. I read through the tuning guide before I did anything, and then hooked up to the bike to see if I had all the drivers installed correctly before I did anything else. I did not back up my EEPROM as I was only trying to turn off my exhaust controller. I guess I should have erred on the side of caution there. I have an 05 XB12R. I did follow the instructions in the tuning guide, but my problem started after my unsuccessful attempt to shut down the active exhaust. That is why I did the TPS reset. Perhaps I did not reset the TPS properly. Am I supposed to really back the idle adjuster way out and then "snap" the throttle closed, or do I just back the idle adjust off until it reaches zero?

OK...I am pretty sure it is not my map, I have it saved and backed up and it looks similar to the one on the tuning guide. I don't know about the EEPROM, I don't know if it is correct or not...there are a lot of zeros in one spot. When I exit from ecmspy after TPS reset, it prompts me with EEPROM settings changed, save to file? Am I supposed to get that and am I supposed to save? Bike will not hold idle, bounces from 800 ish to 1200 and was running fine before I hooked it up to the computer.

Fixed. Has to be a common rookie mistake. I did another TPS reset and figured that I was not fully closing the throttle body, only backing it off to zero. I backed off the idle adjustment quite far, really unscrewed it until I could feel the throttle "stick" closed. Then hit reset, then adjusted to 4.6%. Fired right up and I adjusted idle to 1050. Took it for a ride and runs great, just a little stumble at first. I rode for 10 minutes it went away, either fully warmed up the engine or the computer learned a new setting. Thanks for your assist Dave!

Sorry I wasn't on to answer you other questions. Looks like you figured it out. [up] for fixing it.

Thanks to you to for the assist with the exhaust control Steven! I am a pretty good tuner with most things and a very good mechanic, this is just a new FI and is different from the other systems I have used. I just started my trouble shooting and gave it some thought. I am glad it was simple!
