So i was inspecting the '06 XB that I bought used last week and found 2 oil leaks:

First, at the lines entering/leaving the oil cooler…

And where the clutch cable enters the transmission case near the shift lever:

Of course, somehow I didn't find these things before I bought the bike [smirk]

Before I start disassembling, I’m wondering has anyone run into this before? Any stories worth telling? I’m ordering some parts online soon, are there any seals I should order to replace at these leaks? Thanks for your help. Hopefully the engine bleeding will stop soon! (see my other post on Oil Leak in the Airbox)

Also, I assume the 2005 service manual on this site is good for my '06 issues.

hell those dont look bad at all whip them down once in a while and enjoy the bike....its a harley you start worrying about small stuff you will be going crazy....mostly normal ..... whip them down clean en up probably stay clean for a while

Yeah, the '05 service manual is fine.

- After looking at a parts manual, it looks as if the lines that go into the Oil Cooler seal with a compression nut (ferrule), not with o-rings or seals. Might carefully try tightening those.
- As far as the clutch cable, it probably uses an o-ring or a seal. It's fairly easy to strip the threads out of the primary by tightening these too tight, so check those carefully also.

After all that, do like Maybe said and wipe it off. Check after some rides cause from the pics, it looks like, it's not an active leak, more like buildup over time. Post up again if that's not the case.

it's a buell, not a harley [smirk]

wipe it off, check after some rides.

if it comes back after time, loose the oil, remove fittings, get some grease on the fitting itself and retighten as recommended...

Alright, alright... so I'm a bit anal-retentive about mechanical things. I'll wipe her down and give it a week of riding. We'll see if it turns into anything major.
I've onIy ridden about 200 miles so far but I love this beast!

The clutch cable leak is just a bad O ring, like what steven said. First, set the bike on the sidestand, but put something under the sidestand so the bike stands almost straight up. You'll have to disconnect the clutch cable from both ends including in primary main inspection cover. In the cover, first there is a spring, under the spring there is a nut around a screw, the nut and spring just lift right out. Then you unscrew the screw until the assembily that holds the clutch cable can be pulled out. You may even be able to loosen it enough to unhook the cable without taking the adjuster out. Next the top clutch cable mounts are taken off, the cable gets unhooked from the lever, and pulled out next to the bike. Now you have to unscrew the whole cable. Replace the O ring and thread it back in. BUT BE CAREFUL, don't cross thread it! Once it it back in its adjustment hook and in the lever and cable clamps are on, you can adjust it. The screw in the middle of the adjuster is whats adjusts it. Clockwise loosens the clutch. You want a nickles width of lever clutch play before you can feel any clutch. You might have to give it a few rides to get it feeling right.

Wow, great details, thx Dave. I'll do that as soon as I get the parts. Where do you all get specialized parts like that O-ring? I also need an air cover screw. Looks like buellparts.net only carries major maintenance items or aftermarket stuff.

Your closest dealer will have all those if you got one fairly close. Might not have it in stock, but ordering from them won't cost you shipping charges like it will from a website. ;)
