Thomas Davidson
My name is Thomas Andrew Davidson and I am a Motorcycle racer. I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but Alaskan at heart. As long as I can remember I’ve always loved bikes. Whether dirt or street I’ve always been interested. I remember looking at magazines imagining what it would be like to go fast, and thinking how crazy those guys in the pictures were to lean their race bikes over far enough to touch their knees on the ground. When I was twelve I met an endurance road racer; at the time I met him, him and his team had just won a race at the Sandia motor speedway. he gave me a magazine and circled his article. I would read that magazine daily until it fell apart in my hands. When I was fourteen my family and I moved to Alaska. The climate in AK and my parents, discouraged me from Motorcycles until I was eighteen. I started riding a ninja 250 and sold it the following winter and bought a 2004 Buell Firebolt. At that time I realized I enjoyed working on my motorcycle so much that I decided to become a motorcycle technician.
Over the last 4 years I have owned a wide variety of motorcycles, I purchased the Buell first after the Ninja 250 and it is still in my stable. I have bought wrecked bikes and customized them into Streetfighters. The first bike I fixed up was a ’05 Honda CBR 600 F4I. After riding it a bit, it and sold it and the new owner converted it back to stock. I was discouraged for a few months but decided to try it again so I bought a low sided ’03 Yamaha YZF R-1. After repairing, upgrading, owning and riding it for most of 2010’s summer, I sold it to a guy my age that blew the motor. So much for making my own name in Anchorage with Streetfighters! Right after selling the R1 I purchased a Honda shadow in Oregon, rode it to Orange, Ca. I picked up a passenger, and We rode it all the way back up to Alaska for a two week vacation. I earned Two Iron butt Awards Along the way.
Over that period of three years I attended race weekends in Tanacross road racing, and familiarizing the track. I worked towards certifications in Kawasaki, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Triumph and in-depth Familiarization with Harley Davidson, Buell, S&S Motors, Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha.
This last Year I began riding dirt bikes after work at Kincaid Motocross park. After being told that I accelerated at it and was invited to compete in late season novice lites class (which I declined), I decided that it would better to begin racing motocross in 2011.
The 2011 race season is about to begin, I am dedicating this next year towards pushing myself in Motocross. More importantly, I will be pushing myself to the limit in Road racing, I am driven to make a career out of it.
The Following is a list of supplies I require to compete in both Road racing and Motocross this summer. Most of these items will be permanent fixtures in my race program for the following years when I leave Alaska to compete in W.E.R.A. and onward to A.M.A.

The kx125 has a 125cc, liquid cooled, two stroke engine which is a forgiving but powerful entry level dirtbike. It is a purpose built machine with supercross in mind.

Sponsorship options


You can sponsor just one piece of gear, or if you want to sponsor one of my bikes, your logo goes on it, on top of your logo on it, or if it is a generally unseen item your logo will be put on the race van, bike, and website. Generally speaking, your help/ sponsorships will not go un-advertised.

is there any thing else you guys think i should have in my packet? i'm basically going to have an 8x11 photo of me and the bikes, in the front, all will be on nice paper, and will be in a nice folder.
 
Ok First of all the Risk of motocross and Road race in the same season is great.
I would not trust my hide in a ebay special suit Or my spine to Icon.
You need to get good quilty stuff.
Protection knoxx seems to be what most track day and racers trust.
Have you ridden a track day before?
icon and joe rocket make street protection really more comfort than all out going to save your life protection.
I would not include a wish list like page 4 at all.
You need a snell approved helmet you might be able to get bell or another brand to sponsor one.

You missing alot of items to road race unless you have them alreadry.

Tires warmers, genator, pit stands, spair body work (it's not if you go down but more of a when) Chest proterctor,boots.
If you want a sponsor you need to find a points circuit and list all the races you plan to attend.

Personally you should pick one or the other focus on being the best.
I personally would never sponsor someone that is splitting time between the two mainly if i sponsor you to road race and get injured in motocross. I get nothing out of it or vice versa
 
What RT said, and the majority of your request should be giving the sponsors a business case for why $$ would be a good investment. When asking for money, it is more what they are going to get out of it than it is about what you will get out of it. They want to know you will represent them well, give them exposure, and know you are committed to them. It is good to itemize things so they will know what they contributed though.
 
First and foremost you need to sell yourself as an investment upon which your sponsors are going to see a more significant return. For starters, stick with only one discipline and class. Even if you got sponsorship to cover 75% of each type of racing you are pursuing, you are still covering a large expense as a whole. Secondly, expect to not land a single sponsor. Unless you have race experience that you can put in a sponsorship resume that consist of podium finishes and shows marked improvement, do not advertise it. A sponsor wants the guy on the podium, especially in an amateur class and unless you're an undiscovered prodigy, not having raced from a young age you will be a serious disadvantage once you are off your local track. You need to make the investment in this career path before you can expect anyone else to invest in it for you. My suggestion, sell two of the bikes and use the money to make yourself sufficiently equipped for at least two seasons on your own. Practice religiously! If you want it to go anywhere you need to spend at least 4 to 5 days a week riding and have a training regimen that covers all aspects of your fitness. You would be amazed at how much of a difference there is between your fast local pro rider and a lower end rider that follows the AMA Supercross or Motocross series events that maybe makes a main here or there, night and day. Not trying to discourage, wish you the best of luck, but be realistic with this especially with the extreme lack of experience you have. Also, make sure you have at least some form of medical insurance and I would heavily re-asses your racing expenses list. RT is dead-on with the road racing and as far as motocross goes, I think your wish list is lacking in many crucial areas and way too fat in others (haans device, knee braces not guards, and extremely underestimated on the parts and maintenance). I would suggest before putting this out and finding a reception you are not expecting that you list up here at least, a specific discipline with one machine and everything that you currently posses so that you can develop an accurate idea of the stuff needed to compete and not end up broke and/or paralyzed or destroyed. Chances of turning it into a career are very slim, you need to give yourself every advantage you can take, even in your early 20's you are way behind the curve.

Ultimately, it is whatever you put into it. Use any resource you have at your disposal i.e. this forum - there is a wealth of knowledge and experience on here, use it to your advantage.

It's very interesting that you'll be starting your dirt bike racing on a 125 2-stroke. Next to no one races them these days. Can't wait to see how you do. Good luck!
