Hi folk's! This bloody machine(mule) is trying my patience or should I say the hiding gremlin!
Anyway I took the beast on it's maiden voyage yestereday, which should've been to another galaxy, since it doesn't like this one! Immediately after start-up, ECU light display came on, I decided to take the plunge...and go for it. Rode to town, approx 8km's no problem's. Fuelled up, then left town, approx 500m's the beast died briefly.(tenth's of a second) I decided to carry on, then approx 7km's later the rev counter needle headed to the zero zone....for around 1 second. So due to the distance I had to cover I changed my mind and turned around only for it to die totally! After summoning the coast guard(bike rescue) and returning to port. I retried the beast and the bloody gremlin decided to go into hiding again....bloody mule started straight up. :censored:
Pissed, I walked away....
Anyway I'm going to replace the cam angle sensor, but....it's obsolete, no longer available according to a local HD dealer, and no generic sensor available...
So would be greatful for infomation, of a replacement sensor, or do I have to engineer another style, type of sensor to the orginal mounting plate, or re-engineer the whole unit, crankshaft pick-up cup and sensor, wiring, etc?
Forgot to add...is there any information concerning the exhaust actuator, unit. Is there a replacement unit available, or replacement unit be it generic?
Thank's folk's, Gav

Intermittent "cycling" of gauge cluster needles....intermittent loss of tach gauge needle reading....often times attributable to one or more faulty ground wires in and around the headlight mounting area. XB's have at least 3 dedicated grounds forward of the triple clamp mounts.
Closely check main wiring harness where it wraps around the head-stock. Inside is "red main feed wire". Known to chafe or break in that exact area causing precisely your problem.
Click link below see MY NAME for improved and readily available IEV actuator assembly.

Hi Barrett, thank's for the info.... just to define what happened it was like "someone reached down and turned off the ignition, then switched it on again" there was no flickering of the instrument cluster, I noticied. Same event each time it died.(duration increased from 1st till it died on the 3rd time) Suspicious about magnetic pickup,(cam angle sensor - losing pulse when hot) but I very much need to know about a replacement unit, since the Buell part is obsolete.
I'm hoping to understand that dongle that I was referred to, been told I can 'turn off' the bank angle sensor, which I feel is the other possibility?!
Will check loom on you're info...
Is there a 'generic cam angle sensor', to replace the factory unit with? Does the earlier HD, unit work(3 wire, same as Buell?) Below is the URL link to Auckland HD.
Thank's, Gav

HERE..............read my name.

Hi Barrett, thank's for the info... unfortunately you're post is extremely old... over 4 year's. Do you know of a replacement CAS,(cam angle sensor) or know of someone somewhere that can point me in the right direction?
Since reading you're post it appear's to be specific to that model, guessing updated sensor assembly?(XB12S's)
Just spoke to the HD dude locally, and has informed me through research on his part.... it is definitely 'obsolete', no longer available. And 'no' substitute... zero generic replacement unit.
Please let me know.... if you can locate a solution to the problem, I'm sure Bueller's would want to know for future reference! Otherwise it will be 'Buell' heaven for the beast of the North!(Buell cemetary next 4 exit's!)
Thank's, Gav

Well, you are better off skipping that local HD dude, the next time. This part is actually from his own business.
Looking like a XB 2004-2007, the part number is 32443-04 and is, as far as I know, a pretty standard HD part. :-D

Hi Milborg, did you check, availability?(HD Dealer) I already had the part number, and knew what was told to me locally.
What was available yesterday, does not mean it's available today.....I rang our largest dealer, and was informed the same....part is obsolete, no longer available and no replacement part.(generic) o_O
So.... if someone know's the solution, the answer to the problem, of the obsolete part.(Cam Angle Sensor)
Please let me know....
Thank's, Gav
