Anyone have experience using high mileage cruiser/touring tires on the XT? Wife giving me grief over constant replacements of sport touring tires. It cost me double for tires...as I have to spend equal amount on her...not made of $$, but still want to ride a lot. Last rear PR 2 went quick from too many(necessary) trips on slab. Love to have fun in twisties but am not overly aggressive at my age.

Not sure but I've had decent luck on Dunlops 616 from Cycle gear. You also need to remember that the Setup on these bikes are different than Cruisers. The Cruisers are lighter depending on model of Bike. Width is different Rim Wise. so a Touring Tire may not last with the Frame and set up the Buells have.
Usually on Sport Type Bikes Tyres for max Grip don't last more than 6'000 miles OR less depending on the Rider. I have used many brands of Tyres over 33/years. Sport Bikes get Grip/ Weight Distribution on Tyres, is different, Handling is Great, and Braking is Sufficently Good.
Cruises on Cruisers are just that, NOT much Agressive as Riders on most Cruisers, Buellers well we have A more Agressive Handling & Braking Ability so a Tyre also needs to be for the same purpose. Look up the Dunlops 616 and check out that Great Agressive Tread pattern. I've put nearly 7'500/miles on the rear of XB12R I have but have been[ easy] due to budgets.Usually I can't get that if I ride it the way I want to. Good Luck on your Hunt for the Best Tyre cause we all need that.*Jimi

i'm an average rider with average skills and ride mildly. at approx. 35PSI front and rear on my 2007 Uly, i got 7500 miles out of a pair of Shinkos @ $152 for the pair. lot of riding for not much money.

I ride a lot and mostly on twisty two lane roads and often in the wet (the wonders of living in rural Washington State). I am two seasons - almost 10k miles - on my Metzer Z8 Interacts. I love the tire. I think they handle both wet and dry better than the factory Pirelli tires and have 2k miles on them than my best set of Pirelli. I know, the Metzler is made in the smae factory as Pirelli and does not make sense either.

My XT got 7,000 on Dunlop Sportmax Q2s. That's maybe not as impressive as some of the others quoted here but that's not compromising much on handling and adhesion either so I like the tradeoff. I typically ride 30% to 40% of my miles on the slab and the center was worn flat on the rear but the front looked like someone took a power planer and shaped a wedge profile. 34# front and 36# rear, right out of the book.

I think the Sportmaxes are about the most cost effective sport riding solution for most riders.

What model tires are these? Where do you buy them?
